Glasgow is brill for traffic compared to lots of places but glasgow-edinburgh peak time is bad.

You don't talk of children?-often that influences where you would be due to school?

If you need to use the M8 better places are Lenzie, Bishopbriggs in the north or in the south , Clarkston or going further in you could stay in Kingspark , it is a nice family area with many nice houses. You probably need to look at the map if you are travelling for work.

Glasgow in or outside is a great place , with lots of public transport and very friendly people.

I'm native to Glasgow (west end) but moved back from England a little while ago and chose the Southside due to schooling.

Knightswood I personally would not recomend as it recently has become a bit wild.-I was in the shopping centre there this week, it has gone downhill.
  • Any opinions on the new flats at Glasgow Harbour? The Dandara ones?

Avoid Ayrshire at all costs it is a dump!

  • I think the Glasgow Harbour properties are over-priced, I too would avoid Knightswood. But there are some nice areas in Ayrshire, I don't think calling it a dump is justified.

  • Ok

Do you really need to live in Glasgow?

I live in South Lanarkshire, where there are plenty of small towns and villages offering cheap housing.

Plus sides: Good for commuting for Glasgow or Edinburgh
    Good Rail Links
Good Schools (Depending on where you choose)
    Relatively safe

(I can still leave the house and cars unlocked* Though I'm not telling where i stay just in case....)

I used to live in Glasgow (Scotstoun) for a large part of my life, and since moving here now you could not pay me enough to live there again.

Good luck with the move whatever and wherever you decide

    Regards

    Richard
  • You must be pretty well off to consider Bearsden. This is just me personaly but i love the southside, people call it the poor mans west-end but i think it's miles better. The west end is mostly full of people with their heads up their !!!! and packed with students paying completely over the top for their accomodation. Theres some really nice houses in the southside between Shawlands & Newlands, Cathcart & Kingspark. I live in a flat in Cathcart and i've lived in Langside and Mount Florida, albeit in the cheapest flats there but the whole place is my favourite. Nice and quiet compared to other areas.

    Agree with RichardV6

Many of the smaller towns and villages along the M74 offer easy travelling to Glasgow without the price of the city.

East Kilbride is good - largest undercover shopping centre in Scotland - I think i heard biggest in Europe but maybe someone will correct me on that one.
EK is only around 8 or 9 miles south east of glasgow with good road connections to the city and fairly easy to the M8 and then edinburgh.
The downside with EK is the house prices - they seem to be spiralling upwards and that's why i moved out - it was too expensive.

I'd have loved to have stayed there though.

Keen photographer with sales in the UK and abroad.
Willing to offer advice on camera equipment and photography if i can!
