Statute barred debt and ppi

Hello, I wonder if anybody could help, I have 2 statute barred debts. If I made an enquiry for ppi refund through a 3rd party, would this mean that the debt would be "live" again?
I appreciate of course that anything claimed would likely be used to reduce the debt.

Any advise would be appreciated

No, the debt would remain statute barred.

However, if you used a third party, then you would need to pay them yourself, as the redress goes to the debt. Always go direct.

Once a debt is statute barred it cannot be re-activated although some chancer debt collectors may give it a go. The debt still exists, it is just unenforceable through legal channels, and the PPI claim could be offset against the debt.

No. That bit is ok. However, the CMC would bill you against the redress despite you never seeing it. So, there is no point.

Hi Teddy,
How did you get on ?
I’ve just been informed that HBOS are refunding me PPI against a statute barred credit card debt going back some years.
Not sure if HBOS will pay it to me or use the PPI to reduce the statute barred debt balance ?

Some will have, if there was any remaining redress left after being offset against the balance.

My letter says that I’ll receive a cheque ?

It’s going back some years ( the debt )

Will they send me a cheque ?

If there's a balance owed to you, then it sounds as if they will send you a cheque.
