Satnav takes me down country lanes

TomTom satnavs do exactly the same in spite of setting the fastest route. There are many instances and complaints about this on their community forum.
I've experienced it but learned to use some human logic and not follow the farm tracks when I know that the A road I'm currently on will get me to the same destination much quicker.
I too use Google Maps now and given up with these standalone devices.0 -
Not felt the need for a satnav or smartphone ever (other than the fact that as an ADI I have to teach people to drive with one). I follow a simple three step system:
1: Check road map or google maps (other providers are available) before trip
2: Have road map to hand in case required
3: Drive - allow memory to work to my advantage.
How on earth did we manage in the past?
Add in:
1(a) include street-view for any bits that look potentially complicated / unusual. So when you reach them it's like you've already been.0 -

That has made me chuckle as we're exactly the same with our satnav when we holiday in Cornwall.0 -
Will post codes work with open maps, as I have a 10 year garmin nuvi that I have never really used. As my HTC 10 battery is playing up I have started using the Garmin more it also has freeview TV and a very cool Jedi voice telling directions which the wife loves which I installed many years ago. When you look into an abyss, the abyss also looks into you. You mean wait for the satnav to realise Google Maps was right all along. Which begs the question... why don't you just use Google Maps?0 -

It does make mistakes. Which can get irritating, it is not intuitive....though traffic updates is excellent. When you look into an abyss, the abyss also looks into you. Nietzsche
