Rug gripper/anti-slip thingies - any good?

Our hall floor is vinyl, and we want to put a carpet runner on it that's about 9ft x 2ft (3m x 0.6m). How do we stop that sliding about?

With laminate flooring still being a thing, I guess there must be an effective way to stop a rug sliding on that and surely the same thing would work on vinyl, so the question is - are any of these gripper underlay/mesh things any good? If so, which ones? Do they keep working, or do they start walking once the newness has worn off?

No, because we don't actually want to stick the runner in place, we just want to stop it sliding about. We're both getting on a bit so we tend to be big on avoiding trip hazards :)

Had one for my grandmother on a very polished wooden floor - did the job just fine. Can't remember where it came from - Wilkos or similar, probably.

You wouldn't have to stick the tape all the way round, maybe a small piece at one end and a small piece at the other (depending on the length of it).

You say you are getting on? What sort of age? Rugs/mats are one of the worst things to have in a home as they contribute to many falls. Have you thought of getting rid of it altogether.

We use this, it stops rugs slipping on hard floors and on carpets.

Exactly the same product here, works a treat on our vinyl. Have had ours for 4 years and is still sticky enough to hold in place, but not sticky enough to leave marks.

Try B&M if you have one near you. I've seen rubber (?) ones in there, rolled up for not very much money. In fact it's similar to the anti slip pads you get to put stuff on your car's dashboard.
