Jaguar XF - Lost car key fob
Options
Sadly lost our one and only car key fob, Jaguar is quoting us £550 to replace the fob, I would also need to contact a company to tow the vehicle to the nearest jaguar dealership so this is becoming a very costly error. Looking at forums there's so much conflicting information. Some advice to purchase the key on ebay and take it in for programming, some say it doesn't always work. Has anyone been through this experience and can advise?
Thank you

It's one thing adding an additional key to the car's security, it's another thing entirely if you don't have a key currently...
Will your breakdown cover not take the car to the dealer?0 -
Have you tried all the local Facebook groups round where you think you lost it?
I see a lot of random key posts turning up there... although poorly worded. e.g. photo of some keys "Are these yours? Found near Bob's Wood". Of course, if you're not familiar with the area then you don't know if you were near Bob's Wood.
Worthwhile, too, putting a shout out on all the local groups to ask if anybody's seen them.
People do all sorts with them once found: 1/ leave them somewhere specific 2/ take them to a local shop 3/ take them home.
But, others on the groups DO remember and say if they saw a post and others might find the right set of keys post if they were found/posted.
Be as detailed as you can in your posting about where you were/walked, without giving away the location of the car of course, or even the car type if possible0 -
Have you tried an Auto Locksmith like these guys in the Nottingham Area https://3dautokeys.co.uk/ must be similar firms in your area.
or AA Key Assist for example. (Wife lost the only key for her car and AA turned up next day with one already cut then programmed it by the side of the road where she had parked the car just prior to losing her keys in the field)0 -
Check your insurance policy as you may have key loss cover.
If you are with the RAC etc have a look to see if you have paid extra in case of loss of keys.
Failing that phone round a few mobile key replacement people and see what they can do, works out cheaper than a main dealer!Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0
