How to customise news on Google News App?

Recently Google news app on my tablet has taken to displaying football stories first.by default. I have no interest in football and never search on football news so I do not understand why this has happened?

I am interested in cricket and road cycling and regularly search for news about these sports on google but they never appear automaticslly in my Google news feed. Only football.

I have looked for somewhere in iGoogle News app's settings to customise or prioritise what is displayed first but cannot see anywhere to do this. Can anyone help? I have a Huawei mediapad tablet.

Have looked further at football news feed and it seems to be coming from mirror group newspapers . I don't read the Mirror. But OH sometimes borrows my tablet ton
check sports results and says he did look up Spurs recently. I assume he pressed something in error or activated a cookie for the Mirror. When I open Google news Mirror footie news comes up first.

How do I turn it off? It is not an app, there is nothing for the Mirror in my apps. It must be some sort of cookie but can't find out any where on Mirror web site how to deactivate,/unsubscribe. Anyone care to take a look.? Nothing I have tried, works.

I had the same problem with football on Google News when I started with it and even though I marked every football story as 'less stories like this' and hid all dedicated football sources it would still spam the feed with many more the next day. I stuck with it though and now I don't get any football stories at all although the range of articles still feels quite narrow.

I find Flipboard does a better job with a wider range of sources and it seems to learn quicker when you tell it there's topic you don't like, if there's an article you don't want to see you can see the list of topics that caused it to appear and hide the particular ones you're not bothered about.

On my phone and no doubt on all phones, on the bottom right corner of each 'Google headline' there are 3 dots. Click here then a menu pops up. One says .. not interested in ???

Just click this.

However, in the example of football, the key word might indeed be football, which is all well and good .. click on 'not interested in football'

But it might be from a newspaper. Then the option will be 'not interested in stories from ??' If you click this, all stories from this paper / magazine will not be shown in the future.
