Halifax want me to change my account!

Hello all,
i have just arrived home from work and found a letter from my bank,Halifax, suggesting i change my current account .They are saying that from the 1st Jan 2008 the requirement to fund my account with at least £1000 will be removed. It then goes on to point out that as i pay in more than £1000 per month, i will benifit from changing my account to one of the following,
HIGH INTEREST CURRENT ACCOUNT or an ULTIMATE REWARD CURRENT ACCOUNT.
Now i assume that if i do change from my current account i have now i will be issued with a new account number that will affectively mean the account i have now will be closed.
This is very worrying for me because i am currently claiming for unfair bank charges on my current account(£4000 to be exact),and if i do change my account my old account will no longer exist,so the bank would not have to pay out on my claim. It seems to me that they are trying another tactic to get out of paying up. They know the test case starts in Jan 2008 and if people change thier accounts, the bank can, AGAIN, save a lot of money.
Just thaught i would let people know about this and wanted to say KEEP ON CLAIMING :T

This is quite untrue. It matters not one jot whether you (or the bank) change a/c's, close the a/c or open a new a/c at a different bank. It makes no difference to the validity of your claim.0 -
hi, i changed from my current account to a "high interest current account" about 3 months ago with the halifax and my a/c & sort code is still the same as its always been.0

It sounds like they are trying to sell you an added value account.
Like other posters have said contact them and find out exactly what the change entails if it is not enclosed with your letter.0
