O/S Daily Friday 5 July 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Light cloud with sun trying to break through to start the day here.

DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed, and enjoying my first cuppa and porridge whilst on here.

Dinner last night was pork loins, mash, carrots, broc and gravy. Tonight will be something easy and I may have omelette and salad.

Yesterday I was quite productive, housework got done, washing got done, although there is now another load to go in, which I'll do in a minute. I haven't packed yet but will do that this morning once I've been to do some food shopping, don't need much, but will buy some food to leave for DS1 whilst we're away.

Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. A happy holiday to you.

One DGD up and at 'em already - well sat watching cartoons actually! Other two will be to rouse up shortly and get organised, fed and watered for school. DD's lovely chap coming to take them. Then I have the dubious pleasure of the Friday Tidy in store.

Yesterday we finally got to the new Lidl in the next town along. Oh it's lovely and so spacious but you have to be strong willed before the actual shopping starts as the entrance takes you immediately into the in-store bakery! It was so tempting and smelled wonderful! We were impressed with the quality of the fruit and veg too and it was much easier to get round too than our old cramped Aldi. I think we will defo be going again.

Just got back in time for the hairdresser coming to do her stuff. I feel a bit tidier now. It had suddenly gone haywire this last week.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely and absent friends. Take care all xx

    Morning all

Its going to be another scorcher here, yesterday after work the temp in my car was 35deg !! it was very hot indeed yesterday, today is meant to be worse I think.

Its the clients party at work this afternoon so we have to finish all the food bits off today and make a non alcohol punch, it will be great fun and at least one fight and four people crying !

No Friday tidier today so PH and I will do it between us over the weekend, will attempt to do a bit tonight but will have to see how tired I am.

Jacket spuds for dinner tonight with some ham and salad there is also some bacon to use up so will cook that for OH.

OH has managed to fix my laptop which is brilliant and saved me a few bob.

Right I had better get on have good days all xx

Good morning, it's bright, breezy and sunny here. A little bit cool, but it'll warm up I'm sure.

    Enjoy your holiday NMLC.
TA, i like Lidl as well, there's one fairly near us. We have an Aldi in our town, which I often go to, but I like Lidl for a change.
SO and redruby, you are both obviously further south than me!! I wouldn't say it's going to be a scorcher here, but it's ok. Yesterday was similar.

Yesterday went to plan, I went to the shopping centre, bought what was on my list. Also I got a lovely jumpsuit in the Laura As*ley sale, less than half price, it's very smart.
I was only going past to go to A*da, and thought I'd look at the home stuff. I never shop there normally. The only Laura A*hley stuff I've had has been from the charity shop!!

Today, it's just general "stuff" as my daughter calls it - bit of tidying, washing, take some books to library, parcel to Post Office.

    Friends are coming round tonight.

Thinking of the sad and poorly

    Take care folks xx

Morning all. Glad it's Friday! Very got a busy day at work but a relatively quiet weekend planned which I'm looking forward to. Large pile of ironing has grown which is mostly stuff from last weeks few days away.
There's a pile of feathers outside the back door and the cats are sound asleep on the spare bed so I can guess how they've spent their morning. They don't catch things very often - one cat is elderly and fat and the other younger but inept. I don't like it when they catch things but I suppose it's their instinct. I'd like to think the pigeon escaped them and is now safely back in his nest albeit rather bald judging by the quantity of feathers. Hope everyone has a better day than the pigeon.

    Good morning everyone :hello:

Well today is the day where we empty our dining room ready to put new flooring in. I predict in no particular order, crying, swearing and sulking and that is just Steve (just joking :rotfl::rotfl:). I will have to turf the kids out of bed this morning to help, fortunately Phoebe isn't working today and she has said we can use her room to store stuff in.

I will be in charge of bacon sandwiches and tea/ice drinks as appropriate. We are going to have a Chinese takeaway tonight though as I expect we shall still be all over the place.

The grandchildren are here again and were delighted that their Bampy was here for a change as he is normally in work when they arrive. They are playing on their tablets for a little while and then I am going to rope them into helping with clearing the room.

It's very warm and sunny here already, the fans are on and the windows are wide open. Hopefully we won't overheat :o:o (my face after helping out)

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Morning everyone,

    Happy Friday.

A couple of interviews yesterday meant I left work a little bit later than usual. Quickly popped to the gym and had my weekly catch up with my gran. She's on good form but seems pessimistic about her health. She's very conscious of her slight decline over the last year or so. Sight, hearing, walking, appetite, sleeping etc. She's still super independent and all but these days she seems to reply to my 'how are you question' with a sigh and a 'awk I'm ok I suppose'. I'll see her again in a couple of weeks which will be nice.

Been to the gym this morning, few more interviews today and I've another short gym class booked for after work, but I might give that a by depending on how I feel. Date night tomorrow. She seems a really nice girl so looking forward to getting to know her better.

Yesterday was NSD 4, but today won't as I need to buy some birthday presents. Damn. Need to buy milk too.

    Have a super weekend everyone!

    Morning folks.

I've already been out for my haircut during which I found out that my hairdresser is leaving in two weeks - she's having their first baby in October. It's so lovely as her and her boyfriend were on the verge of starting IVF.

Last night I had a little meltdown with DM when she complained that I gave her the evening meal at 7.30pm rather than at 8.00pm! I'm a physical wreck (gaining weight) and an emotional mess, I miss my home and my friends and I miss being able to 'do things'. DM has been in bed for two weeks now and I'm running around after her. Yesterday was particularly bad so I think my lowered resistance because of my cold just had enough. When I came back from my haircut I've found her dressed in day clothes! Last week she was in a bad state though this week she's been so much better and should be up and dressed. Funny what a meltdown achieves although I'm still very upset.

Phew... enough! The GP is coming round about lunchtime after which I want to get out and walk. I look awful, seeing my face in the mirror at the hair salon was dreadful - things have to change.

My sore hip is responding well to my home devised exercise of flexing my gluts as often as I can, even when sitting. It all makes walking easier and less painful. I've been doing my arm dumbell exercises too, got awful bingo wings now that I've stopped swimming. It's a visicous circle of physical decline which needs to be stopped.

Thoughts are with those who are also struggling with various problems much greater than mine - and I wish a Happy Friday to everyone.

Gers, I do sympathise, I hope your mother realises how much you've given up for her and appreciates it.

    Speky, enjoy your date.

TA, try the GI cob from Lidl, it's very tasty and lasts really well. The meat there is also really good as well as the F&V. The main area I think they are lacking in is tinned pulses and herbs and spices.

Steve finished relaying the patio last night and wants to clean it today. I'm on the utility room and dining/sewing room on my mega spring(summer) clean. I'll be glad to finish but a bit ashamed when I come across things like the glass in picture frames which is terribly dusty. I tried to clean one yesterday only to find the glass had mysteriously disappeared, goodness knows when and how that happened.
  • Thanks for the Lidl tips SNOOZER. I shall look out for the loaf next visit. DD is veggie and she commented on the lack of pulses etc and other stuff that constitutes part of her diet. She needed to go to Morrisons afterwards for those. But barring that we were both impressed with the variety of meat available (despite being veggie herself she still buys it for the girls). Just a random item but something we both liked was their Skyr fat free yogurt in a variety of flavours.

GERS you have my sympathy too. I know to my cost just how mentally and physically draining it is caring for an elderly ill parent. I know it's not always easy but do try to look after you too. x
