unauthorised payment from bank account scam

Options
Warning, I have just reveived a recorded phone message which sounded quite official and authentic warning me that £600 has been withdrawn from my bank account and I should check blah, blah, and if it was not me I should check via the supplied phone number.
To me it's an obvious scam but others may fall for it, this type of con has featured in the past on BBC Watchdog and other programs. This is an old scam but seems to have been resurected by some other pondlife scumbag . All this said I did check online via my banks secure system just for my peace of mind and yes all ok.

Here's this "sounded official" again. In what way did it sound official? They're not going to call you and sound unofficial are they, so sounding official is never a reason for trusting any kind of cold call. I understand the reason for your warning though, as there are too many people who seemingly trust cold callers merely because they were able to passably sound official.

There is a Youtuber named ScammerRevolts whose videos show just how convincing and official these people can come across as.

Most of these scams are variations of the same theme, where the scammers ultimate aim is for you to give them access to your PC

There's another "Kitboga". Now his are funny as well as having the serious subject which many do fall victim to.
My cousin has recently just avoided being scammed with the ubiquitous Microsoft Support computer infected script. Big red warning message on her screen. I don't know how but she was most certainly not on anything "dodgy". She called the "support" number, gave them the usual requested access to the p.c., Teamviewer etc., but after she told them "£500, no thanks, I'll check with my Nephew," they digitally wrecked her computer and left her with the associated aftermath hassle which that causes. I don't know if they did the "syskey" thing too?

One of these days these scammers are going (I live in hope) to come up against A someone who knows what they are doing and B they have a PC/laptop that's free and the person will (hopefully do some justice to the scammers.)

I think s/he simply meant they sounded authentic.
