Price of the vehicle should not matter. With the way cars are built these days it should not rust so quick and the spring area shows that it’s not protected at all and rust will be in the joint that can’t be fixed.

Of course the price matters. You gets what you pays for.

You need to look at the warranty. Many cars come with an anti corrosion warranty, but they are limited to what they cover. If the warranty excludes the areas that you are contesting, then you may struggle with a claim.

    Is that it?

I think you should push them on the rusty spring mount but the rest? No chance. That's just surface rust that's appeared where moisture has collected briefly. It looks like it will wipe off.

There’s way more than that most of the underneath is an issue to be honest.

Then stick with your plan of finding a solicitor who can advise you whether or not it's something you can/should pursue.

Somehow I think the OP will be hard put to find a solicitor with sufficient "car" knowledge to decide whether he has a claim or not.

Wouldn't it be easier to get the car inspected by RAC or an independent garage or something?

Read your anti-corrosion warranty - it should cover the rust on major structural parts, not bonnet or front panel.

The car may of been sat in a field for months before it was sold to you - rust on the last picture is worrying, best you service it to the letter of the book and be prepared for a long fight.

I think the spring mount rust at that age is cause for concern. Having spent many years around old fords that needs sealing now to prevent further water ingress. Challenge is the location I suspect.

I think you would be best placed to find other affected users (Forum) and try and get a combined action going.

Personally if it was me I would be just aiming to get the car back to them with fair wear and tear and walk away.

What do you want to achieve ?

To be honest I would like a refund as it’s not if satisfactory quality. I have been told it would be hard work as it’s now over 6 months old.

I don’t think like this that could do an adequate repairs. There is someone else with the same issue I am in contact with
