Washing Machine problem

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can offer me any advice, in March 2006 I bought a new Servis washing machine from Argos but within 6 months it had flooded our kitchen with a holed drum. I managed to get a replacement machine from Argos, an identical Servis (even though I did not want another Servis) .

Unfortunately 14 months after getting the second machine it has packed up, I only have a standard 12 month guarantee from Servis so I dont know what to do, an engineer has s found that the pump has failed but I dont want to throw £100 odd to have him fix it as it's like throwing good money after bad.

Servis say they cannot do anything about it and so do Argos.

Is there any way I can get this sorted through means of help from trading standards as I feel that things should work for more than 14 months?

Any advice is much appreciated as I am at the end of my tether with it.

Steve.

Not really I'm afraid Steve. If the machine has worked for 14 months then it has proved to be "fit for purpose" and the very best you can hope for is a subsidised or free repair. Beyond that there's little or no recourse IME.

I wrote a guide here about myths and misconceptions in this area based on the cold hard facts of how things actually work practically.

Probably not what you want to hear and I've no doubt someone will pipe up that it's ridiculous etc., but I have more than a little experience in such matters on a practical basis.
