Google drive/Google photos help

looking for help/advice/clarification on google drive/google photos. Currently I have the 15gb free google drive storage option, however this has been maximized & I'm now out of storage. There is a "google photos" folder in google drive which I think my mobile device has been auto uploading photos to at the higher quality image option that uses storage.
I know this month google photos & google drive are separating.
Questions:
- how do I lower the quality of the already uploaded photos in google photos folder in google drive
- how do I then move the photos from the google photos folder in google drive to just google photos (so that they are no longer taking up space in my 15gb allowance).
- when the change comes & gdrive & gphotos separate will the gphotos folder in gdrive automatically move to gphotos?

How to Remove Photos from Google Drive but Not Google Photos0 -

Download them, edit them with a picture editor, to resize them to be smaller (e.g. if currently 1600x2400, then go to 800x1200), then re-upload, replacing the original.
However, if you do this, and overwrite the original, you will NEVER get the quality back. You will be stuck with the low-quality version, unless you have the high-quality one stored elsewhere0 -
FYI- the automatic storage of Google Photos on Google Drive is about to end

This is going to be a pain as I use this feature all of the time: take a photo and it is immediately synced to all devices which use Google Drive.0 -
Have never understood why you need a photos folder in drive when you can access photos via the app or browser on any device?
i use google photos for photos/videos and google drive for docs and calendar attachments"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0 -
OP why not set up a second or third Google account for more photos, you can go into Google and choose add account option, click kn the coloured letter top right corner and choose add account, enter the details and done.0

you just need all your original photos/videos on a physical drive (not google drive) on pc/laptop/nas at home and set google photos to save all photos/videos in high quality (unlimited free storage)
you will also need google back up and sync pointing at the physical drive to sync any additional photos added to the folder that have not already been synced on phone/tablet"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0 -
I still use Picasa because I like to keep specific batches of photos together under title and date. And put descriptions on specific photos.
Can this be done free with google photos and can I upload my over 48 Gb of photos? It's your money. Except if it's the governments.0 -
if you have good metadata you don't need to label and rename any photos/videos (unless for a project) as you can use google search function to find your photos.
i don't rename anything. (lifes too short). I just have one folder called 'memories' with 2 sub folders 'videos' & 'photos' each of those folders are then just split into years.
i have approx 400 gb of photos and videos uploaded to google photos in high quality unlimited free storage format"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0
