in Credit cards
I have taken out an Amex card on Martin's advice, so that I can buy Christmas pressies for everyone and get 5% cashback. BUT! I'm going to New York in 3 weeks and want to shop there. This site does scare me a bit when you all get all technical -but I just want to know whether I get the same benefits spending on Amex in the US, or whether there's a charge for spending abroad on it.
Thank you!!

Thank you!!

Yes, there will be a charge of 2.75% (like most other credit cards, except Nationwide and Post Office).
Also, be aware that Amex is not actually very widely accepted in America!0 -

As KOF says you'll get charged the usual % for using the card abroad, but as your getting 5% cashback anyway it's still a good net deal, and you can't go wrong with the current £/$ ER. Anything you buy will just go on your UK monthly statement in the usual way (the 2.75% will already be included in the debit amount shown for each purchase). Have fun!0 -

You are joking aren't you? I've been to America many times and Amex is taken pretty much everywhere over there.0 -

Thats what I was thinking...... I always have to ask if they take amex in the UK, and the answer is usually no..... In the US I have never found a place that doesn't take Amex......0
