asking for bank statements

HFC bank have replied to my PPI complaint saying they do not keep records more than 6 years.

i have the original loan paperwork which shows that there was a charge for Credit Protection Insurance of 12.2807% of the monthly repayment, on the loan of £3932.93 over 120 months. it also shows that I was self employed and includes my accountant as reference. it was signed by the Zenith Windows rep as "on behalf of HFC bank Ltd"

so they say that to investigate claim, I have to provide copies of bank statements. I have looked but of course have not kept them that long. the loan was taken out in 1994. we still have the replacement windows to prove it. the window supplier, Zenith, is out of business, so no help there; and the bank details were for Giriobank, Bootle, who have changed hands 2 or 3 times since, we are now with Santander with the same account number.

Do i have any chance of success? thanks.

While it is certainly not impossible for such ancient mis-sold PPI to be redressed, those that have been successful have invariably either banked with the same organisation for all of the intervening years or have comprehensive documentation detailing the payments or they have had both. Since you have neither your complaint has failed before it's begun.
  • we are still with the same bank, and same account number, address etc. but thanks for comment. perhaps clutching at straws!

Not really, Girobank was taken over as you detail in your earlier post. Although your account number may have remained the same, it's hardly the same bank and your records probably only go back as far as the last takeover (or 6 years, whichever is longer) ..
