MOT 4 years covered????
Hello Guys,
I live in Rep of Ireland and want a buy a car from a dealer in NI but the car has no MOT. This car is 2016 and the guy told me that this car wouldn't need MOT as it's not 4 year old!!! I am getting confused as dont know new regulation about it but i heard is 3y in NI and 4y in Rep of Ireland so i dont want to buy a pig in a poke!!! Can you advise me please who is right? Also the MOT for this car was due 28/03/19 so even that should i require MOT done to make sure this car has no any issues?
Thanks.
P.S.
Also i found this :
You must have an MOT test carried out on your vehicle every year for cars three years old and over. (There is no requirement to test vehicles less than three years old.) The third anniversary of the vehicle's registration is the first MOT test due date.
In January 2018, the government decided to keep the age a vehicle needs its first MOT at 3 years, rather than extend it to 4 years.

NI, cars are MOT'd at 4 years old
If you buy from up here and take it to Eire, then you have to MOT it under the 3 year rule you have
If the car isn't even 4 years old, surely its coming with a full service history?0 -
GB MOT is three years from new, then every year.
NI MOT is four years from new, then every year.
RoI NCT is four years from new, then every two years up to 10yo, then every year (AIUI, might be wrong).
So if it's 3-4yo, and going from NI to RoI, no test is needed. If it was going from NI to GB, it'd need testing.0 -
Thank you so much Guys for your help!!! I really appreciate it!!!0

In NI all MOTs are carried out at a government facility, not dealers or garages. It must be booked online and the online system will not let you book a test unless it is due within the next couple of months. So the dealer wouldn't be able to arrange one.Mortgage = [STRIKE]£113,495 (May 2009)[/STRIKE] £67462.74 Jun 20190 -

It seems like you are correct
Every day is a school day
The NI authorities seem to have a huge backlog

What a good idea! We could do with that system in the UK. It would stop some crooked mechanics from giving your wallet a bit of GBH.0 -

It is huge at the moment , mums is going in at 8pm on a Saturday night and they are opening Sundays soon to try clear it
The good thing about our system here is that you are not going to be told work needs doing that doesnt
A lot of garages advertise pre MOT checks but I always take mine in and see what happens. Only one car has failed ( I knew it was going to ) and at least I knew what I was then going to ask a garage to do for me, rather then them tell me what the car "needed"0 -
