Uni students help please
My son took a new shared house yesterday with uni friends for a year so until June 30th . They are with some weird company called glide and want to switch but are so confused about a good duel tariff as they will only be there a year so worried about exit fees . Can anyone shed some light please ? Ps they are in Reading area , thanks

Things to do/bear in mind
Ensure they take initial meter readings asap if this hasn't already been done
Contact the current supplier so they can be billed. I don't know whether Glide themselves are a utility company, or they act to aggregate accounts/bills in one place so it can be split among tenants , with the utility company being another party. Find this out asap as well as the current tariff. It is unlikely to be competitive.
Edit
For comparison, Bulb, available in Reading, is 12.91p/kWh and 19.47p/day standing charge for electricity, so Glide is not a cheap supplier. Clearly the concept has a market, and some people would want to pay a premium for all their bills aggregated into one place. If you've moved into a property where the energy is already provided by Glide, you'll automatically be placed on the Glide Lite tariff.
Electricity
Unit rate 19.414p/kWh
Standing charge 26.197p/day
Check with the landlord/agency that they are allowed to switch. Some tenancy agreements, rightly or wrongly, may state they aren't allowed.
Use a comparison site to find a deal to switch to. As it will be for less than a year a fix is unlikely to be appropriate. Many tariffs have no exit fees so keep this in mind.
At move out next June take readings again and give these to the supplier to close the account and obtain a final bill.0 -
Glide is not an energy supplier as such.
Broadband, TV, Electricity and Gas all in one simple monthly bill.
Glide simplifies bills by combining all your utilities into an equal split monthly bill for each tenant. No more headaches and no more chasing your housemates for money.

They use Ovo for energy, and Virgin for broadband.0 -
Are they in any way expected to stay with Glide?0

Has your son agreed with his mates how the bills should be shared ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

Be aware that dual fuel tariffs are often not the best value currently, so do ensure they double check single fuel tariff options.0
