I'd be grabbing the money and running even faster than the waterbird from Buckingham. It's extremely generous.

Haha! perfect, thanks for your feedback all. I've sent them an email to ask regardless and will take whatever is offered.

It sounds to me like you have a case for the Substantial band (£500-£2000) if you took it to the ombudsman. Which the £750 falls into.

Threaten to take it further unless they up the offer a bit - it costs HSBC a lot if you take it to them and they would want to avoid it.

Looking at the definition of "Substantial" and "Moderate" I'd argue it sounds a lot more like moderate than substantial to me.

Thank you! You were definitely the most helpful out of everyone here today :)

I'm sure everyone will be happy to know that they have compensated me for £1500. Goes to show better to ask than settle.

That's because he doesn't work for HSBC unlike the rest of us.

I love it when it all comes together, suitable response, great compensation and all wrapped up nicely despite the no-goers. And so quick. Isn't that a welcome surprise.

If I said I was going to post earlier predicting this, would that help? ;)
