Win Win Situation with Hospital cash plan?

Hi, we've found this useful, so thought I'd share it.
Hospital cash plans are a type of insurance policy designed to pay for some or all of your everyday medical expenses e.g. dentists and opticians bills, trips to the physio or osteopath etc.
The not for profit organisations usually offer the best policies and a list of some of these can be found on the British Healthcare Association's website (www.bhca.org.uk).
How have we saved? We are a family of 4 - our dentist is private, and I'm as blind as a bat and wear contact lenses which I change every year. We have a family policy with Paycare (covers 2 adults and any number of dependant children). It costs us £26/month (that's £312 per year), but we claim back £175 every year for family dental bills and £150 for my opticians bills (that's £325 per year)...so for a start it always saves us a little bit each year on dental and opticians bills alone.
And, if we needed any therapy e.g. physio/osteopathy, it would pay back 100% of bills to £250 per year and we could claim back 100% of consultation fees with a specialist/consultant (to £350 per year). It also pays you money back for stays in hospital and other things.
So all in all, for us, it always saves us a little, helps to spread the cost...and provides useful cover for other things should we ever should need it.
The only thing to note is that for medical/therapy things, you have to declare any pre-existing conditions which they won't usually cover. This pre-existing clause doesn't apply to your teeth and eyes (as far as the dentist and optician cover is concerned).
Claiming is easy and we've always been paid back within a week. Hope this might be useful to someone.
