DVLA Medical Condition

Hello,

Just wondered if anyone here had experience of informing the DVLA about a medical condition, and how long it takes to hear back from them?
I’ve been told by my consultant I am not currently allowed to drive and so, I think, I am entitled to a bus pass. However I need DVLA evidence to prove eligibility for the bus pass.

I'd check that with your local council (TFL if you live in Greater London).

Can I ask is this going to be a permanent medical condition or something short term and then you'll be able to return to the roads?

I've been on my local council website and I read it to mean if you'd be refused a driving licence on medical grounds then you are eligible for a bus pass.

Hopefully short term, I had a seizure due to a condition in my brain (not epilepsy), the condition only being diagnosed after a MRI scan. I am now on seizure medication so if I am seizure free for a certain amount of time I should be able to drve again :)

I'd check with the council directly, you may just need something from your doctor/consultant. Also you may find eligibility for a travel pass doesn't cover a short term illness/condition as you describe below

Legally you do need to tell the DVLA, but having read the many threads on here where it takes an absolute age to get your licence back once you are cleared to drive again I'm sure many people just put their licence in a draw, obviously don't drive and resume when they are given the all clear by their dictor/consultant.

I filled in a medical questionnaire on behalf of my family member and I think it took just over a week for them to respond to it. As it happens, their health hasn't improved so we've been unable to re-apply to get the licence back.

I just uploaded a copy of the letter stating the licence had been removed and applied to the local council online for a concessionry bus pass which came very quickly.

    I doubt it. I certainly wouldn't buy a ticket.

They'd be better off putting it in a drawer.

Well I've told the DVLA so I'll see what happens. Personally I think it's the right thing to do. Also if I don't tell them I don't think I would be able to benefit from the bus pass.
