PayPal Business Debit Card 0.5% cashback

I am comparing this to Tesco Credit Card Tesco points, is the comparison below about right?
TESCO £8 spend=1pt=1p=3x rewards=3p
0.5% CB=£8 spend=4p0 -
Feel free to correct me if my maths is wrong, but shopping with a Tesco-branded credit card in Tesco stores gives 1 point per £1 spent normally, in addition to 1 point per £4 - any spend outside Tesco is 1 point per £8 as above. Assuming you can redeem the points on something that gives the 3x boost, then £8 spent at Tesco with a Tesco-branded card gives 10 points, or 30p rewards (3.75p per £1 spent). It's a better choice if you regularly shop at Tesco, but otherwise is a poor choice compared to other cashback cards in my view.0

The card is being marketed as a BUSINESS card, so it is probably inappropriate for most of us. Even if I qualified, it would offer me nothing that Tandem MC, Aqua MC and MBNA Horizon Visa don't already offer me.
I used to use a PayPal Visa debit card until it was withdrawn and found it useful. This isn't a like-for-like equivalent.0 -

This is a debit card, where as the others mentioned are credit cards. It should in theory be easier to obtain if you have high credit already. Monthly payment limits seem to be unlimited, rather than restricted by a credit limit. There are certain payments where credit cards aren't excepted, maybe this will allow CB payments you can't make with a credit card
Anyway, its another offer, there are others, not saying this the best, choose as you wish0 -
I wonder if there is a way to find out which current account will be used to fund the payment? (Currently there are several current accounts linked to my paypal account).0

In case anybody is following. I have had paypal business account for some years, so I decided to apply. The card arrived all safe and sound, so I tried to use it for my daily shopping. Payment was rejected. Called PayPal and have been advised that the following part taken from the PayPal website is simply wrong:
To the extent that there is no or insufficient balance available to fund such transaction, you hereby authorize PayPal to draw the amount from your bank account via direct debit, to credit this amount in your PayPal balance and to use it immediately for the card payment. The amount drawn from your bank account will be rounded up to the nearest multiple of GBP 5.
An example: If you do not have any PayPal balance, but would like to pay GBP 26.50 to a merchant, an amount of GBP 30 will be drawn from your bank account and credited in your PayPal account. GBP 26.50 will be used for the card payment. You can spend the remaining PayPal balance of GBP 3.50 on other purchases.
You need to have sufficient funds in your account to cover the cost before you make a purchase. :mad:0 -
The auto top up option for business debit card is available again. You should be able to select a confirmed bank account or debit card as the backup funding source.
I tried it and it worked for a purchase greater than my available PayPal balance.0 -
A bit late in the day but possibly useful for others.Paypal Business Debit is ok providing you do not need to rely on it. There are multiple problems with the card:-1. Almost all attempts to use it at Petrol Pumps (in the UK at least) will fail. It will then text you and tell you it failed because you tried to use contactless and have not used chip and pin enough - even though the pump itself is chip and pin and will not handle contactless.
2. Unless you have used Chip and pin within the last day or two, then any payment you try to make with contactless will almost certainly fail. That can look VERY awkward if making the mistake of trusting it to pay for anything in the presence of a client etc - or even friend.
3. If you use it on Ebay - it will sometimes fail immediately - but if not, it will look as though everything has gone through but several HOURS later, the items reappear in your basket and all traces of the transaction(s) vanish.
At first I thought this might be just a fault with my card, but having spoken to other people, the general feeling is it is not a card you can rely on, CERTAINLY not in a situation where a wrongly-declined card could be embarrassing.
I tried to speak with them today to resolve matters and after finally getting a "chat window" - was told someone would get back to me in a few hours. (Seriously, HOURS). So far nothing.
Paypal Debit card is a great idea but is inherently "broken" on several levels. ALWAYS make sure you have a proper debit/credit card with you as well as theirs - you WILL need it.

Another downer is that PayPal have tightened up on qualifying transactions for 0.5% cashback. Let's just say I no longer receive cashback on what credit card providers would consider quasi-cash transactions.
On a positive note, PayPal have bumped my cashback up to 1% until 29th December. I benefited from a similar offer last year.0
