Can you find a non-smart TV? How much cheaper is it than the equivalent model?
    .

It's been a few years since I bought a TV, at that time smart tv's were a lot pricier.
Currently, I found non-smart Bush TV's through Argos with the smart versions just £20 more.

Indeed, so your advice is now out of date.

"I was shocked to see my latest Sky Subscription leave my bank account – a whopping £115"...........and how long have you been paying this......if months/years,i would advise on a serious check on bank DD & SO as its a fair bet your paying other stupid amounts out

Nope, pretty happy with my other costs - clearly my Sky deals have come to an end and the price has ramped up.

Not if the OP has a perfectly working TV and just needs to buy a Roku stick or similar.

Just search this forum for posts in which people complain that their Smart TV stopped updating after 2 years.

No - this was about advice that a smart TV is more expensive than a 'dumb' TV - I argued that it would be very hard to find a 'dumb' TV these days. Nothing to do with considering Roku or other sticks. And I also suggested that the situation with Smart TVs becoming redundant has got better now platforms have stabilised, though I provided no guarantees.

The point was that the OP was thinking of upgrading to a smart tv because they wanted smart apps for catch up TV and you said you thought that a smart TV was a safe purchase. It's only now you think that it might be a bit of a risk if the apps stop working in a few years time.

Our Panasonic 'smart' tv is one of those that lost the ITV Hub and All4,but now has only iPlayer left.

I use an Amazon stick (with Prime)and find no need to record as Amazon content and regular tv programmes are nearly all on demand.

Amazon has add on subscription channels, including Disney.

Oh, I do think a properly researched smart TV is a safe purchase. Don't buy one only to find out it doesn't have ITV Player, for example, if that's important to you.

No - here's a quote from my first post, #8
Now you're talking sense. Hopefully with each manufacturer having more mature platforms, this will be less of a problem, I think it's a safe purchase.

Note the word 'hopefully'. And here, from my post #16:

Note that I have actually advised the OP that IMO they need a set top box, as they want to record. They haven't said what TV they have.
Not understand. We all have internet. Why you need Smart tv?

Well, what size is your computer screen? How are the speakers? And many other reasons.
