Flexplus Travel Cover - Renewal charge of £30!

Just received a letter titled 'Nationwide Flexplus Travel Cover Upgrade Renewal Expiry'.

It goes on to say that there is a charge of £30.

Is this something new that is being applied to 'everyone'?

I thought the whole point of this packaged account, was that everything was included.

The letter goes on to say things like '..the upgrade you purchased..', but I haven't got any 'upgrades'.
Just a normal family - two adults and three children.

We've had this account for several years at zero (additional) cost.

The letter specifies:

"Upgrade Type & Cover

From: 24/07/2019 To:23/07/2020"

It doesn't actually mention any type of 'upgrade'. It is just a renewal as far as I am concerned.

I will ring them later today.

Just wondered if anyone else has been charged this year.....

I had to inform them that I was on blood pressure treatment a couple of years ago, which was covered at no additional cost at the time, but this year they charged £30 for this "upgrade"
    No.79 save £12k in 2020. Total end May £11610

You dont need to pay for an upgrade unless you have a holiday booked, you will then get a year from when you paid it.

Presumably the letter is from UK Insurance, not Nationwide themselves?

I would call UK, ask what upgrade this new payment is for and why they have applied it to your insurance. Then if your not happy call Nationwide themselves and check regarding athe Flexplus I surance conditions.

I am expecting to pay a similar additional sum on my next renewal but that is because of passing age 70, which at age 55 your nowhere near!

Thanks Mnd. I think it must be the same as you then. I too advised about High Blood Pressure several years ago and they included it free.

They recorded it as a disclosure, not an upgrade, and was included at no extra cost. Indeed when I spoke to them at the time them implied it was a reduced risk as I was taking tablets to manage it.

But 'if' it is this then would assume they would record it under the section 'Upgrade Type'. On my renewal form, this section is blank.

I will need to contact them to ask.

If they are going to start charging additional costs, it will start questioining whether the Flexplus package account is still worthwhile.

Half the population has got high blood pressure, most of them don't bother to have it checked!

Just got same letter with £30 "upgrade"...
Also informed them 2 years ago when I switched to then £10 p/m FlexPlus account about taking high blood pressure tablets.
Factoring this £30 into current £13p/m fee would mean £15.50 p/m for the account... getting a little expensive.
