Think you're making things up to suit your own argument there. Why would a tester rely on the views of someone else? They should be relying on themselves and the MOT guidelines.

I am good friends with an MOT tester, and asked the question - he said it's because they want to know which areas to inspect more thoroughly, as they're clearly an area of concern.
Likewise, he will note down upcoming issues as advisories, and expect that next year additional attention to those by whoever does the test.

Of course I fully expect you to tell me I'm making this up too :rotfl:

    ... I know MOTs aren't cheap.

They're not exactly expensive though, are they?

I paid about £48 for my last one, and I'm in an expensive part of the county. I got a small discount for being a repeat customer, but even the full whack of under £55 shouldn't be too hard to budget for.
They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.

Take the zero VAT into account, and it's the cheapest hour of labour you'll find in most places.

Probably because the tester wouldn't want to miss something that's marked as outstanding. No ones perfect and very few testers would want to risk loosing their testing certification.

Utter nonsense, I drive my car to the garage car goes in and is tested and either passes or fails. Mechanic then goes to the computer and fills in what has been noted. At no time does he look at previous MOTs.

I know this because I sometimes do the reving bit, the lights the horn etc and chat away (normally being told I have a heap of junk) whilst the test is done.
