Closed store parking - Lidl Athena ANPR

Hi guys,
Bit of advice, had friends down recently and they mistakenly parked, 11:30ish at night in a near-empty Lidl's (the shop was obviously closed) car park. They were waiting to pick up family members after an evening out.
Consecutive nights, so 2x tickets received but different owners so different addresses.
Where do they stand. The appeals address is a PO Box...
Thanks.

Parking on private land where you have no business to be is the reason these scammers exist. Why would ANYONE use (and in this case, clearly abuse*) private land to wait to pick up a family member, when parking on double yellows on street is allowed for that purpose and it's free?
Single yellows, or double yellows, are there partly for that exempt purpose and that's where to stop.
WHY WHY WHY do drivers seek out blinking private car parks?
I went into Brighton this weekend at 7pm for a night out. Where did I park, Saturday night? On street of course (to be clear, not double yellows!). Never even looked for a car park and that was in the centre, near to the pier & clubs. Most cities have places you can park and/or stop to wait in the evening after restrictions end.
*to be clear, I am NOT saying to pay stupid old Athena. No-one pays them!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
