Scholarship in USA

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could help me.
My daughter has been asked to attend a football camp in USA where scouts from various universities will be scouting for footballers.
There will be scholarships on offer (obviously if she is good enough) of 75%-100%.
If she was offered a 75% scholarship would she be able to claim grants etc from England eventhough she would be at uni in the USA?

I havent even a clue as yet how the english unis work so this is really confusing me. Our income is approx £30,000 a year.

Sorry to be a pain but I've looked over the internet and cant find anything that would help.

thanks

I don't know how it works in England but in Scotland you wouldn't get anything and I assume it would be the same elsewhere in the UK. You might be able to get private funding from a charitable, philanthropic or other group (in both the UK or US) but I wouldn't expect any form of funds from the UK government, not if you daughter is going to study in America for her entire degree and not when you earn £30,000.

Other means of funding are incredibly competitive though and you need to start looking early as quite a few have early closing dates. Some of them will have closed their applications for the next academic year already.
  • Thanks for your replies.
She is on such a high about this and eventhough we keep explaining that we just wouldnt be able to afford it, its not quite sinking in. :(

No she won't get a penny from the UK. Something else you need to consider was it 75% scholarship for studying costs or living costs or both? Often the grant they offer is only the cost of studying (tuition fees). Most living costs are NOT included. My brother was also offered a sporting scholarship to a US university - when it was looked into, it only covered studying costs and nothing for living costs. He never went and always regretted it - but can anyone live on fresh air?
  • Just double checked and the 75% would be living costs including.....food, room, books, tuitition fees etc.

ooohhh no dont tell me he always regretted not going :( I'm feeling bad enough already lol

Thanks for taking the trouble to reply :)

It is cheaper to send your kids t uni there with the exchange rate plus they can get extra scholarshis if they work well which they can apply for once there.

surely not, university fees are like 10 times the cost from those in the UK!
