Hi
Can anybody help me please?
My wife and I took out a mortgage with Northern Rock, back in early 2000s, via a broker. The broker was countrywide (who claimed to be impartial, but actually only searched an approved list of lenders) and they also miss-sold us mortgage payment protection insurance.
I wrote to them a while back and was told that they weren't covered by the financial ombudsman at the time, so we couldn't claim.
Does anyone know how I would go about perusing this please?
Many thanks

It's pre-regulation, so not worth spending any more of your time on, I'm afraid.0

Mortgage brokers were not regulated until October 2004. So, before that, they could really call themselves what they liked within reason.
The use of the word "impartial" is usually used by those that are not independent as that is the only protected word under regulation.I wrote to them a while back and was told that they weren't covered by the financial ombudsman at the time, so we couldn't claim.
Regulation of insurance didn't start until Jan 2005. So, they are correct.Does anyone know how I would go about perusing this please?
you don't. On the plus side, most MPPI complaints fail anyway. So, even if it was post regulation, it would probably have failed.0 -
Not the answers I was hoping for, but thank you very much for the responses.
I'll waste no more energy or effort on it!
Thanks.0
