Hi,
My laptop has stopped working and I'm hoping someone can help.
I think I pulled out the power cable yesterday and over the course of the day I'm guessing the battery went down to 0%. Now, the laptop is off and when I press the 'on' button it doesn't come on, even though I've plugged the power cable back in.
Can anyone help please?

Try leaving it plugged in to the charger for about 20 mins without trying to switch it on.
Is it an HP by any chance?0 -
A couple of random thoughts...
Do any lights come on when you plug it in? Sometimes the battery needs a smidge of charge before it'll boot.
Have you tried it without the battery in? (NB. Unplug it before removing the battery.)
It'd be an idea to give details of the make & model, as different brands can behave differently.0 -
Take battery OUT, plug laptop into wall socket with socket OFF.
Hold power button on laptop down for 20secs.
Turn socket at wall ON.
Turn laptop ON. Anything? If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0 -
It's a Dell Inspiron 15. I took the battery out and tried turning it on just connected to the mains and it worked! It's turned on. Thanks very much. At what point do I put the battery back in though?0

another random though: the cable got pulled staight out, or was it yanked at an angle, possibly damaging the socket or cable? Did the cable get pulled so much that it partially release the plug from the wall socket?0

I've known a few laptops do exactly this and removing the battery - unlikely as it sounds - usually does the trick. As Grumpycrab said stick it back in anytime and it'll start to charge.0
