How do they know?

I looked into Royal mail redirection a while ago, and vowed never to use the service if I ever moved. For a start off, you have to give them extensive personal details, including dates of birth, of all residents. They even want to know if you've got a dog !!!!!!! (not mandatory info). Do you really want a private company such as Royal Mail having that sort of information about you and your children? Then, they automatically furnish local authorities and central government with your details. They also inform credit reference agencies and TV Licensing, although I think it's a clear opt out for the latter (at least it used to be). The database is open to a myriad of "official" bodies. However, you can opt out of the "service" whereby they'll sell your details to all and sundry.
Top and bottom of it - don't use Royal Mail Redirect. Inform all those that need to know, well in advance of your move. Job done.0 -
Custardy..... I don't think we're ever going to agree on this but again I just can't believe that somebody who has sold there house can't tell the bank, CC company etc etc for 4 years that they've moved.
Johnsmith1890.... completely agree as I've already mentioned RM appear to be selling people's personal data and from what I can see without informed consent.... I would never agree to It!
I've also been told that mail is sorted by machine which reads addresses and names.... nothing to stop it being stored. Also name and address is stored when you go to pick up an item you weren't in for. What choice do you Have?0 -

You realise RM create and hold the full address file for the UK?
How would you suggest RM store your package without keeping a note of your item?
How would you suggest RM align(for example) a redelivery request without having package data?0
