Sounds good. Let me know if you need more assistance. Be careful when browsing sites which may be rogue.

I've just been looking through this thread, and am very surprised that a combination of spybot, ad-aware, norton plus one other ... I'd suggest f-prot from datafellows - can't fix the problem. Plus constant use of ZoneAlarm.
If you are still having trouble, if I were you I'd dump my data onto a CD, and then re-format the HD.
It's a real pain, but then you can reload your applications, re-install the above, and then re-load your data.
Failing this, why not buy another HD? Prices have fallen, performance has improved. You could install a new HD as the master, and then with all the above installed, copy files over in safety having connected your existing drive as a slave.
Good Luck!0 -
I never understand why a reformat is always offered as an answer ????
it may take time to indentify the problems but Spyware/adware can always be removed once it is identified.yhis may take a little time (my record stands at 6 hours for a friends PC that had 1000's of infections....it now scans clean all the time !!)
normal simple order
1)download and install ccleaner, spybot, adaware and Microsoft antispyware + anti-virus if you do not have it
2)turn off system restore (yes I know it's scarey but it has to be done!)
3)run ccleaner
4) reboot into safe mode by hitting f8 on boot-up or usinf msconfig
5)use safe mode without network support at this time
6)Run anti virus and clean, then Microsoft, spybot then adaware...fixing as you go
5)reboot into normal mode and do a scan with anti virus then microsoft, if clean then do a new restore point if not then do steps 3 to 5 again
worse case yu have a remaining brand new bit of spyware that may remain for a little while untill someone finds a fix, then do steps 3 to 5 againEx forum ambassador

Yea, it is F8 Fran. btw nemo, formatting is taking this issue way to ahead than it can be solved. As a matter of fact, hijackthis is the only thing you need to clean your computer of spywares. Not talking about viruses here.

not technically true....Hijack this identifies stuff that is loaded but cannot clean everything on its own, it use useful to identify the problem then make use of the software above or standalone tools to remove them
the steps i have posted will be usefull for the non techies...hijack this can !!!!!! your PC if you remove the wrong items !Ex forum ambassador

I have to echo what Browntoa has said - hijack this, whilst a very good program, is only really a information gathering tool. Yes it has a few bolt on's but it should not be seen as the definative spyware/malware removal tool by the inexperienced/faint hearted.
As Terrymats has stated previously there are other forums that specialize in the removal of spyware etc... and Hi jack this forms part of that removal process.0 -
Did i miss that part here? Maybe posted that on some other thread. But yes, it is definitely for techies only. Others stay away else you may have to re-install your OS.
