Shopping for one

Hi all
I'm sure this is on the board somewhere already but my head is all the over the place at the moment and I need quick advice/answers.
I am splitting up with my boyfriend of 3 years and will now be shopping for one.
How much do you think I will spend including detergents/toiletries etc.
Or I should say, what "should" I be spending
Thanks to you all

Hi & Hugs!!
I would say you could easily achieve eating well including all cleaning and toiletry items for around £75 per month.
What do you spend ATM?

Hi,
I know how you feel. I recently split with my boyfriend of five years. It takes a lot of getting used to!
I'm sorry, I can't really help with the detergents/toiletries as I buy in bulk when on offer; I bought soap powder when we moved into the flat and I still have two huge boxes. You mightn't have the storage for this, though. Also the toiletries I got when tesco were practically giving them away last year. It also depends on what you buy. I should imagine toiletries would remain more or less the same, but you will need to buy them a little less regularly.
Also, I halved my food budget. He ate a lot (even though he still turns up to see dd and expects me to feed him!!!)

Thanks!!
We currently spend £50 weekly (*cue sharp intake of breath) I know I knowits a lot but he eats like a pig !!!
I eat a lot less and wouldnt spend much on toiletries.
I feel so awful, cant believe he's doing this. He'll come running back when he doesnt have his tea on the table every night!!!cooler bag/£30 Chat mag/Pantene pack /Xmas meal /10 real people mag. /Nivea xmas pack! /3 cadbury cream eggs./£25 real people /.Loreal bronzing balls.£25 real people mag/Thomas Cook holiday/£1000 joe browns clothes/nandos platter/chambord/4 mcfc ticks/2 night deluxe glamping/2 cineworld ticks/2 nail varnishes/Giraffe Vouchers/Caribbean Cruise!0 -
Yep.
That's what I budgeted for food when we were together. I didn't always spend it all, but he did eat a lot. I have now budgeted (except for this month) £25/weekly. Again, I don't always spend this but I do like to have it in case I see anything to stock up on.
Another thing I do is still cook the same amount, but I then save some for another night. Less work on the nights you can't be bothered.

Ok I'll stick with that then, think it should be less - hopefully as I'm going to be skint, I'll be at my mums for tea otherwise!

Just remember to keep checking on here for new ideas... they've really helped me, too.
Also, have you read the tightwad gazette? My library didn't have it and said they couldn't order it  so I bought it, but it was worth the money. I wouldn't have said that I was very extreme, but I must be as I do quite a few of the things that the author (Amy Dacyczyn) does. It was printed in the early ninties in America, so the prices and some of the information might not be relevant to everyone but it's certainly a worthy read. I'm just at the end of the book (there are 900+ pages) but I'll certainly be re-reading it. I'm not on comission, btw, lol.

I'll check it out, sounds really good.
Thanks again

Omg £75 a month sounds very frugal.I spend about £150 and there's only me and the 2 doglets. That's for food, toiletries etc though. and I do most of my shopping at Aldi and Morrisons"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

There's only me and the doggy in my house :j (since June - must be something in the water recently!) and I try to keep within £100 month for all food, dog food, cleaning stuff and toiletries - however sometimes the toiletries idea is abandoned and I go mad and buy stuff I don't really need but WANT! I usually shop at Tesco.
I find cooking for one the hardest thing - you either have to make double portions and have it two days running (or freeze one portion) and get fed up of the same thing all of the time, or live on "easy" things like jacket potatoes etc because there's not much incentive/motivation in cooking for one.
My dog is eating like a king because I just can't get the hang of "one person" size portions!0
