Detailed Transactions on Statements

Options
Does your bank provide you with the details (sort code and account number) of payments you’ve made out of your account?

Whenever I look at my online statement, or download a pdf, it only shows the name of the recipient that I save it as, instead of the sort code and account number.

I’ve deleted he recipient (myself but another bank) and requested 5e sort code and account number from my current bank but they won’t give me it.

I’m sure the sort code and account number for outbound payments were shown in the past but not any longer.

I’ve had to raise a complaint with the bank to try and get the account details for the previous payments.

Does your bank provide the account details for payments you’ve made in be past?

You can set up your payees with meaningful descriptions instead of the account name, such as My Lloyds 1234.

Although there are some rumours this will no longer be possible when banks start checking the payee name against the account name. I can't quite believe that. We'll see.

It will still be possible. You will be notified that your payee name does not match but you will still be able to go ahead and use whatever payee name you like.

None of my accounts show account numbers on the statements detailing where the money has come from.

When I make a transfer to one of my other accounts I have the option of putting a reference eg MF/ISA, MF/Cur.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.

It’s only very recently I’ve realised they don’t check the name against the account name and the name I put is just for my reference. It makes things SO much easier!

LBG are very bad on this. I've been pressing them for years to reveal the destination sort code and account number - but LBG is 100% "Not-Invented-Here" when it comes to new ideas ..:(

Their response is always that you can trace it by the payee's name. Then I direct them to my Payees - most of which are either Mrs. P or myself - and they suggest that I make up unique terms.

I then make the same point you make about future, stricter, validation of the Payee.

    " What? "..:rotfl:

Never ever had a bank that shows sort code and account number - they only show the payment codes.

Which, if you set them up, are your payment codes. If you just use your name you will not be able to tell what's from where.

So, as others have said, use a unique code - I usually just put my initials and part of my surname and then an abbreviation - so Joe Bloggs Santander account 1 would be J Blo Sant 1.

I'm not sure their not showing the sort code and account is a cause for complaint - if it was you that set the transfer up and didn't include that info.

I prefer that just the name is shown on statements. I can see why there would be an attraction to show more details but if the full details are shown there’s a fair chance that someone might pay me and eventually throw their statements in the bin for someone to retrieve.

I realise that there’s limited damage to be done with that data but I am of the opinion that you should protect all information about yourself.
