Work Colleagues Deodorant/Cologne/Perfume

  • Hi Les. The guy in question wears tight fitting clothing, he doesn’t have visible sweat patches and also likes the heat.

I’m not sure why you are so determined to spin the medical problem issue, when it’s not. Medical treatment for sweating doesn’t include strong smelling sprays, it includes Botox, medicated roll on deodorant etc.
  • Hi Ja7188 I can’t sit further away and also I can smell it as soon as I walk into the room.

OP, you are the one coming on here speaking about a "guy" who wears lots of fine fragrance or "cologne" as you say. You are saying he wears tight fitting clothing now.

So the "guy" wears aftershave, uses deoderant spray and wears tight fitting clothing.

I think you actually fancy this guy. Either that, or this is your fantasy.

Sorry but I am not mincing my words here.
  • Hi Marvel ambiguous posts lead to better answer so
  • It could be a lot worse - he might have a BO problem and is using deodorant to disguise it. If he didn't, then you would really notice it.

He's a bit heavy with the scent and you're a bit over sensitive by the sound of it.

No real health issues and it isn't one of the more awful pongs collegues can inflict on you.

I'd actually probably just let it go but if its really troubling you
I think I'd be in favour of a general message asking everyone to go easy on highly scented products in the office with no tops up while in the room as a couple of staff do have allergy type issues. I'd go via the line manager to achieve this. I wouldn't want to single him out at this stage.

Can you use a small desk fan?
  • Hi Ridgerunner PAT testing is required, so no.

Miss Marie you are a strange one, and I wonder what sex you think I am and I’m attracted to.

Not on a USB one it isn't.

And it would be PAT, or PA Testing, not PAT testing.

I think you may have to realise that you are the one with the problem here. If your work colleagues have been there much longer than you and have done nothing about it then they must all accept it. If they are all really bothered by it then cant one of you just drop a casual 'Blimey mate, you've overdone the aftershave a bit today'.

I think you need to be careful about making a fuss as you may end up being very unpopular.

To be honest, if I was eating tuna for my lunch and someone pulled out a Vick covered tissue and started covering their mouth with it I would find that person very rude. To sit at your desk inflicting the smell of Vick on your workmates is not fair either.

If you are so sensitive to smell perhaps you need to find a job in a more open environment.
