EDF energy charging Standing Charge twice!

Hi everyone
Just had two energy bills from EDF and I've always suspected something wasn't quite right all the time I've been with them,. I want to switch but I need to get this sorted before I do as I've been with them since at least 2009, yes I know I need to switch before you all tell me.
Right first bill which I've paid had the details below:
Bill date from 16 Apr 2019 to 21 May 2019 (36 days)
Standing Charge (36 Days @ 24.96p per day)
Second Bill (Just arrived) details:
Bill date from 16 April 2019 to 22 June 2019 (68 days)
Standing Charge (68 Days @ 24.96 per day)
Now when I went to school the 36 days from the first bill I've paid should be subtracted from the 68 days of the second bill for the standing charge so they are only charging me 32 days on the second bill else I'm paying twice for the first 36 days. I have kept ALL my bills since I started using EDF and its seems they have been doing this from the time they started supplying me, if that's the case which looks likely they owe me a bit of cash.
Am I missing something or am I what I think correct that some of the bills are charging me part of the standing charges twice. What's your take on this.

Two S/C ?? one gas one electric .0

Given your dates - taken directly from the bill - I have to agree that you are being charged double for the standing charge.
HOWEVER, do you have gas and electric and does your SC include payment for one fuel or is it for both?
Is it, for example, 24.96p per fuel per day, or is it 24.96p for one fuel per day?
Write a letter headed COMPLAINT and explain what you have discovered and what you want them to do - refund all extra charges made over the years - and post it and also email to their complaints department as well.
If, after 8 mweeks they do nothing to your satisfaction then take it to the Ombudsman - either that or calculate your losses, collect your evidence and go to the small claims court to recover your overpayments.
EDIT: If it is a dual fuel account then you would expect to see a separate SC for each fuel on every bill, not just one item labelled Standing Charge.0 -
I only use EDF for my electric, gas is with another supplier.0

Does the second bill credit the amount of the first bill and therefore supersede it?0

On this basis they are double billing you for the unit consumption as well.
What I think you have got is a revised bill - part of the content should refer to the earlier one and be shown as credits.
Have you paid the first one ?
Could you post the second one - blanking out the confidential info. Use imgur or similar and add (dot) to the linkNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
How quickly after receiving your bill do you pay it?
Too late and there will be a Crossover between paying one bill and the next bill being produced.0 -

The second bill would appear to supercede the first bill.
16 April 2019 to 22 June 2019 is 68 days when I went to school. Maybe it's changed from the time you did?
Any credit paid should be reflected on the bill, unless you have only just paid it.
If you contact the supplier, they should be able to tell you the curren6t balance owed.
They may even produce you another superceded bill0 -
Right folks
I don't think I could make it any clearer in my initial post, they sent the second bill which arrived just a day after I had paid the first bill which showed the credit that I paid from the first bill. It still doesn't explain why they are charging me AGAIN for the first bills Standing Charge.
Details of both bills are:
Bill 1:
16 Apr 2019 to 21 May 2019 (36 days)
Electric use £46.20
Standing Charge (36 Days @ 24.96p per day) £8.99
Total charges for this period: £55.19
VAT @ 5% of £55.19: £2.76
Total Charges for this period: £57.95
Bill 2:
16 Apr 2019 to 22 June 2019 (68 days)
Electric use £41.11 and £20.19
Standing Charge (68 Days @ 24.96p per day) £16.97
Total charges for this period: £78.27
VAT @ 5% of £78.27: £3.91
Total Charges for this period: £82.18
Bill 1:
Last time you owed (18 January 2019 - 15 April 2019): £12.59
You paid us: £12.59 credit
so bring forward: 0.00
Your charges for this period (including VAT) £57.95
Your new account Balance: £57.95 in debit
Bill 2:
Last time you owed (18 January 2019 - 15 April 2019): £12.59
You paid us: £70.54 credit
so bring forward: £57.95 Credit
Your charges for this period (including VAT) £82.18
Your new account Balance: £24.23 in debit
Looks like I've also been charged the VAT for the full amount on the second bill also which in my eyes is that they also owe me the extra VAT I've been paying.
I always pay the bills on time and going through the pile of old bills I have going back to 2009 it doesn't look pretty for them as they have been doing it since then. I will only be able to g back 7 years for any refund due but do you think I should get this reported to the regulator because if its happening to me they must be doing this to all their customers.0 -
Based on the above you've paid £12.59 and £57.95. You can disregard the first payment as that was for the Jan to Apr bill. Your charges for the new period (April to June) are £82.18. You therefore owe £24.23, which is what your latest bill states, so I'm not sure why you think anything is wrong. You can ignore the middle bill completely as your latest one supercedes it.0

As I said before, bill 2 replaces bill 1. And your payment of bill 1 is why bill 2 shows you in credit before they total up the £82.18, thus leaving £24.23 to pay.
Imagine bill 1 never existed at all - but for some reason you'd just spontaneously decided to pay £57.95 before your bill was issued. You'd not have a problem with bill 2 at all.0
