We're well stocked with booze (and toilet paper). We are actually staying in the van on the drive for 2 weeks, our daughters are still at home, one is a teacher and the other a trainee teacher (with asthma), so we're taking no risks.

Having driven from Portugal, through Spain and France in the last few days, I'm amazed at the attitude of people here in the UK. Hopefully this complacency isn't misplaced.
Having stayed confined to my house other than a trip to the supermarket and a daily dog walk for the last week, I am absolutely amazed / angered / ashamed by the actions of my fellow Brits recently. What on Earth do people think is happening? I can't understand whether its stupidity, ignorance, arrogance or something else. I think their actions has pretty much left the government with no alternative than to enforce a complete lockdown which will come this next few days. I wouldn't be surprised if at the end of all this the UK has suffered the worst out of all the European countries.

Well, what to say.  I sort of knew we'd get to this point, but it's mind-blowing to actually be there!!

We need to do our usual shop this morning (we have a few extras in, in case of illness and imposed self-isolation, but still need usual stuff, otherwise we won't then have anything in for the future IYSWIM)   Lets just hope it hasn't all gone bonkers again.   If it looks bad, we'll just turn round and come home.

Glad I can still go running (for now!) and we can still go for a walk.   However, with the sun out, it was lovely just to sit out in the garden for a bit and chill.

As long as we can still get groceries and get outdoors, then i'm OK with it.   Hard not to be able to physically be there for family, as some are in front line jobs and some on the at risk health list, but there you go.

So a big, virtual, hug to everyone who needs one!
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

Yesterday afternoon our local Aldi had well stocked shelves. Was quiet with no sign of panic buying. Normality of a kind.
Hopefully people will take the freedom to get outside responsibly. The mental impact on people could be severe if further tightening were to be introduced.

Chaos tranferring online IMO. None of the supermarkets have delivery slots for the forseeable, which may get sticky if the restrictions become even tighter.

Probably find that a number people have booked weekly deliveries or collections far ahead. Last week our major Tesco's had no availability until the 2nd week of April.
Hopefully though the increased home delivery services are being assigned to the vunerable through the local Government initiatives.
  • There's an army of idle taxi/Uber drivers out there who could be making essential deliveries.
