So you have enough to live another 55 years thats not including interest on your total ,if you live to be 115 years old you will have to live on your state pension!!!SouthCoastBoy said:I changed jobs just over 12 months ago, rather than retire, I was 58 at the time. New job was a 40k pay cut but has meant I can work 100% at home rather than commuting 4 hrs a day, and has enabled me to top up my pension a little longer.
Not too sure when I will retire, I did a review of my current savings yesterday, total pot is 1,669,810, pension is 838,586 and savings/investments 831,224 I have calculated we need 2500 per month net of tax.
I may retire at 60, which is early next year, or continue for another year or two.
The point about financial independence is an interesting one, I'm always concerned about a stock market crash and 40% gets wiped off the value of my pensions and investments, which is I guess, why i've not retired
I sometimes think this thread should be changed to _ Lets all brag about how rich we are.

Feel free not to read it then 🤷How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)6 -
In general I find this thread to be the complete opposite. Plenty of other threads over the years where I have wondered if there is a bit of w*lly waving going on. Sorry if that wordings a bit naughty but that is I think the generally accepted terminology.Ganga said:

SO whilst I would be the last person who would advocate trying to time the market I am about to move some of my funds currently in a global equities tracker into a index linked gilts 'state pension equivalent before 67' ladder. This has been on my mind for a while but I would be lying if I said the current market valuations were an encouragement to get on with it.....Sea_Shell said:Musings for a Sunday Morning...
For those of us who have FIRE'd or are planning to...are we really "FI", or are we deluding ourselves?
As, at the end of the day, most of us are not so rich that we are immune to the vagaries of government policy, international affairs, monetary policy and business. We still need things to "go our way" to a certain extent.
Can we ever really call ourselves Financially Independent, when in most cases, we really aren't, truly independent, in reality?
Our figures are looking "too good to be true" with the recent market increases in our ISA and Pension funds as we approach both mid year and our 5 year anniversary of our FIRE decision.
The next 5 years could be....interesting?!?I think....0 -
Today's musings...
When you do a head clean on your inkjet printer, where does all the ink go?!?
It appears to have used about an 8th of a (of all 4) cartridge, with no visible sign of where it's gone !!How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)1 -
It was the 5 year anniversary of this thread yesterday!!!
After 5 years, we have 122% of what we started with.
Our total spends over that 5 years equate to 14.5% of the figure we started with
Rolling 12 month spends equate to 2.5% of our current total
You do the maths!!
I wouldn't want to 'brag' now would I. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)15 -

Very Impressive Sea Shell, Had a look at your figures at start on page one. Drawdown and untouched pots look erratic figures over the past years ?Sea_Shell said:It was the 5 year anniversary of this thread yesterday!!!

I can honestly say, I have not missed a day of work. I wasn't really close friends with my colleagues, so I haven't kept in touch either. Clean break.
Domestically, you still fall into a routine though, as the boring stuff still needs doing, so despite 6 trips away last year, you can sometimes feel like you've just swapped treadmills 😉
But at least it's YOUR treadmill and you get to choose the speed and inclination!! 😎How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)9 -

The DD figures are skewed a bit as DH started to DD from one smaller pot, before transferring in another bigger one. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0
