As regards hot/cold tap for hand washing, I always use the hot tap but would never dream of leaving it running just so the water was hot. I turn it on, if it's warm because I or someone else has recently used hot then fine, if it isn't then fine too.
Personally, I don't time myself, but can't be more than 5 mins.
I've read about 15-20 min showers on the energy boards.
If you're happy to wash hands in cold water (from the hot) why run the hot tap at all? How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)3 -
Ovo credit interest is only up to 1k balance. When we were with them I put there balance to just over 1k and left it there. Santander cap each cash back category at a fiver a month (doubled to 10) which is annoying.I think....1

We have a combi boiler which is good, but unfortunately it does take a while for hot water to come through. I don't mind washing my hands in cold water.1 -

Plus I run the tap, wet my hands, put the hand wash on, wash, rinse then turn tap off so more time for some warm to come through.0 -
I only shower at the gym. Makes gym membership seem cheaper.3

Top tip.
If you do want hot water, just use the one (bathroom, en suite, cloakroom) closest* to your hot water tank (or combi boiler).
The hot in our downstairs loo takes forever, especially as the new taps have a reduced (eco) flow.

I always use the cold tap downstairs because if you use the hot you are still washing your hands in cold water unless you wait ages. Problem is educating other people. The younger generation are taking my adulthood away.0
