I have to say I have not bothered with PBs but I know a lot of people do stick their cash reserves in them. I have resigned myself to getting very little interest on savings so just keep them in an internet saver and a regular saver.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. Uncle Ernie gave me £25 this month too - what of it? Well my entire holding is the £25 I was given when I was christened a lot of years ago.bluenose1 said:Well hate to brag but I won £25 on my £9k stake.
I have said before my oh thinks I am too impatient checking and prefers to wait for the envelope through the door rather than check online for his stake of £27k, but between you and me I know he hasn't won anything
Of note though, that £25 had it been invested in an account which kept up with inflation would now be worth over £400 whereas the total winnings that I recall are either £75 or £100.I think....1 -
Indeed…..we have some allergies in our family, & that was partly why we rule out pets at our cottage. I know it rules it out for a chunk of potential guests, but there we are…it perhaps rules in a (much smaller!) chunk!Sea_Shell said:
Let's face it, I doubt any accommodation steam cleans all surfaces and soft furnishings and sets off a "fumigation bomb" between guests.westv said:
If you can't clean the place properly then should they really be accepting pets?atush said:
It would cost too much for the clean if done 'properly'.westv said:
If tbe place is properly cleaned should it make any difference?atush said:
And bad for those of us with pet allergies, guess this place wont be added to my list.Audaxer said:We usually stay in self catering and have been disappointed at times when the accommodation was reasonably priced and looked good on the website, but they didn't do the basics well, like for example tired-looking kitchen appliances and lack a lot of basic utensils etc. We are prepared to pay a bit more for better accommodation but even some so-called luxury accommodation has also been disappointing as regards the basics.
I wasn't previously aware of Darwin Escapes, but I do like the look of that accommodation. I see that they have various sites throughout the country and most lodges seem to be pet-friendly which is good for us.
So if you're very allergic to dog, then no, it won't be cleaned "properly"
PBs? £75, thanks for asking 😇🤪

Well done! DH, until recently, had £21 from when he was born too. Never won anything...and still hasn't.How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)1 -
I only got £5 when I was born.1

I thought about PBs a few months ago, but instead I opened a couple of 1 year fixed accounts at 1.27% and 1.3% which I thought was a better option for cash I definitely don't need access within the next year.enthusiasticsaver said:I have to say I have not bothered with PBs but I know a lot of people do stick their cash reserves in them. That is a pretty good rate but all our cash is either earmarked for something or our emergency fund so it does not seem right to tie that up into a fixed account. Everything else is invested in stocks and shares although in theory we could get that out quite quickly.Audaxer said:

It's looking very much like our gas and electricity bills will account for an additional £1000 of spending, making our £22k in 2022 easier for us. How nice of them!!!!

That could make the % of our spending on them increase from 4.4% of annual spends to almost 10%
Luckily our cheap fix runs until mid-April, unless something happens to Eon. And it will all hinge on what the cap does in time for next winter. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)4 -
Maybe any excess would be best spent on more insulation, triple glazing, solar panels..
....... and a pair of these bad boys:

We don't do bad on usage to be fair. We only use about 13,000 kwh of gas per year, on average, historically.
Our new boiler should see this come down, which I'm monitoring over time. It's already having an effect as during 2021, we only used 12,200 of gas, and our boiler was fitted in the summer.
When you're already a fairly low user (for a 4 bed detached) then any savings on usage are going to be tinkering around the edges somewhat. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)2
