Bumping dailies

Recently it seems that there is a new trend to bump comps which can be entered once a day on the main board. I've always understood that these comps are marked as a daily when they are posted on the main board and then added to the daily thread and left alone. The only exception would be where the answer changes.
Just wondered what everyone else thinks?

That's what the daily thread is there for - bumping doesn't change the date on the threads so no help to end-daters and anyone who has already seen the thread and enters daily presumably has already bookmarked a direct link to the competition site and doesn't need the original post again.0

no need to bump unless its to answer a daily question in my opinionThanks to everyone that posts :T:money:

I've been guilty of doing this a few months ago, I, Like most people probably don't ever visit the Dailies thread (or even the Regular Comps sub-forum) ... so just bear in mind that people bumping daily threads might not have thought about the dailies thread ... or possibly even know it exists.
They're also only trying to help, so it's not generally necessary to be harsh in responding to these posts (some of the responses can be viewed as a bit stand-off ish)
I also find it helpful when they're bumped 'cause generally I forget about the dailies ... but I get that that's what the Regular comps forum is for, so they probably shouldn't be bumped.0 -

Just bookmark a link direct to the particular sites and you can go to them directly, no need to visit the forum or need it to be available to enter or rely on any unnecessary bumping.0 -

No matter how unnecessary something is there will always be someone who finds it useful but that doesn't make it necessary.
You choose not to use the daily thread
You choose not to bookmark the site direct (best way)
You choose not to bookmark the actual thread.
doing any one of these things removes any need for bumping and clearly the majority of users do one or more of them.
(Just had a look at the daily thread, I don't use it, and there must be 60 or 70 dailies on there - it would be a total nonsense for them to be bumped everyday)0 -
I think the main point here is the different types of competition ... I wouldn't want (for example) a gleam competition where you can do a daily RT for entry into the main prize to be bumped everyday ... but where there are prizes to be won every day (ie, Instant wins), I think bumping should be done.
ie the Marigold comp (I'm sure there are others, but I know this particular one because I posted it)0 -

Same applies there are several ways to do it without bumping and based on the number of thanks the "bumping" is not used by many. Maybe of some use Vs the wastefulness of it for the very very rare significant daily prize (like the £1k hamper) but I cannot think of any other recent ones with that sort of value.0 -
It goes back to the hand holding discussion we had when the mag dailys were thrashed out about where they should be posted. The daily thread is there, maintained by myself, but if people choose not to use it (or their own version of it), then by bumping each thread every day we might as well hold their hands and enter for them.
I personally keep my own daily thread on my laptop with about 10 comps that I want to enter each day. The only ones I may refer back to on the forum are the ones like the topcashback where I need a new answer. I wouldn't use the daily thread myself i'll be honest, but for those that don't keep their own version of it, they are relying on everyone else to bump for them and risking missing a days entry.
To clarify my opinion, I don't agree that daily comps are bumped unless there is a change in answer or prize, everyone here should be an adult and not require daily prompting.StayHome * StaySafe * BeKind0 -
Well, for a Daily Instant Win ... does that constitute a change in prize?
(I agree Mag Dailies shouldn't be bumped because they are daily entries into the same prize)based on the number of thanks the "bumping" is not used by many
I think we all know the number of Thanks bares little resemblance to the actual number of people that might have found the post useful. Negating the fact that the Bumping replies got more thanks than the "Stop bumping" reply on the Marigold comp.0 -

There is no reason to suppose the thanks on a main post are inherently disproportionate to the thanks on "Bumps" so the ratio is valid regardless of the total number of entrants0
