This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Well I cant blame scumbags for my daft early rising today its all about my inability to sleep beyond 5am

Stayed up late watching Glastonbury last night with my GBF too so will no doubt need a kip in the sun later.

Did some research on my cloudy eye and seems its quite common after cataract surgery but literally sorted in minutes with a laser so I am looking forward to that appointment.

So plans for today are very weather dependant its looking good now and is supposed to get very hot later so will crack off my to do list this morning which has a fair bit on it so no napping on the job for a while. Grabbed some chicken breasts out of the freezer so fancying something a bit different. Had a recipe book mooch and I'm leaning towards maderia chicken that Ive never cooked before so fingers crossed its as nice as it looks. I have some maderia in the back of a cupboard somewhere so I'm all sorted for ingredients.

Hope everyone has a lovely sunny Saturday

    Morning everyone

Nelski - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Sun shining here already, supposed to be very hot here today we'll see. I have a load in WM that will get pegged out. I got all wash loads line dried this week, not been able to do that for a while.

DH and myself are both enjoying first cuppas, he's watching catchup tv whilst I'm on here, although I'm showered and dressed, I'll be heading into town first thing to visit the building society before it gets too busy and too hot. DS1 still in his pit and DS2 settled and ok.

Dinner last night was breaded chicken portions, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg for the menfolk. I had some salmon fishcakes and made a pan of caponata, using up some pepper, mushroom and broc with a portion of frozen stir fry veg that needed using up, it was lovely and is so simple to make. Tonight will be hot chicken drumsticks in bbq sauce, pork pie, scotch egg, salad, cheese coleslaw, hot new potatoes.

    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks and thanks NELSKI. The sun has yet to appear here, it's a bit foggy but it's forecast to burn through. I will try and get some little jobs done before it appears and I am compelled to dash out and sit in it!

I had a surprise phone call from an old friend yesterday. She is over from Oz for a few weeks. Currently she is in Devon with her brother, having a bit of a holiday and sightseeing. Then next week she is coming up to Yorkshire to stay with her other brother and meeting up with old friends. We finally narrowed it down to a day we can catch up with each other!

NELSKI I'm glad your eye treatment doesn't sound too daunting. GINTOT that's worrying for your DGS. I hope he doesn't have to wait too long for the op.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. Thinking of you all as well as the MIA. Take care all xx

    Good morning everyone.

What a scorcher yesterday, I opened a lot of windows in DM's place to get some air through it. I'm still slowly getting rid of some stuff here. I started on the spice drawer, probably most of the spices are 'flat'. I discussed the store of empty glass jars with DM and she's agreed they have to go. They are all little bottles she used when painting. Every little helps.

The GP phoned last night, agreed to complete the DS1500 form :( and will visit next week. Mind you DM asked for fish and chips last night! One of the local shops does a mini version which was perfect. DM took the batter off the fish before eating it. Not many chips were eaten so they are in the fridge and I have instructions to fry them up for tea tonight. :rotfl:

Gintot - glad you enjoyed the fennel dish.

I've off shopping shortly. This afternoon the 'crossword buddy' is visiting again. DM won't be able to get out of bed this week so I'll need to set up things in her bedroom.

My thoughts are with those struggling and I wish everyone a happy Saturday.

Well we did have sunshine but it seems to have disappeared for now. It was really hot again yesterday but will be cooler today. Hope it stays nice as I have the bedding on the line, hoping to put it back on later.

Glad your eye problem isn't as bad as you thought Nelski, still a worry though.
It'll be good to catch up with your friend TA, enjoy the meeting.
Well done on the decluttering Gers, as you say, every little helps.

School has finished for the year, quite a few tears from our P7s and a whole school full of happy staff! Most headed to the pub, I went to visit a poorly friend then the allotment. Headed home to cut the grass and visit a neighbour (who plied me with Pimms!) and PACKED MY CASE!

I have a long day trying to stay busy, the flight isn't until 9.30 tonight so will need to leave here about 6.30, DD is picking me up.

Hugs to those in need, look after yourselves whilst I'm away, I'll try to pop in when I can. Take care. XX

    Morning all

Up early for me at the weekend I woke at the time my alarm usually goes off and could not drop off again so got up and shoved the first wash on, I have a towel load to go on after and it can all hang out today, its meant to get up to 28 deg here today so I think it will dry !!

Another 2 lb off this week so 1 stone 4lb all together, I am getting there slowly, I am aiming for 2 st gone before my holiday in September which I should manage fingers crossed.

BBQ tonight and probably tomorrow so I will get some meat bits in today and lots of salad, I need meals for the week too as the fridge is a bit bare.

We have decided to stop the cleaner it was ok yesterday but she has still not been as thorough as I would hope and its a lot of money for something not being done properly.

Hugs to you Gers what a difficult time for you xx

Gintot hope your dgs doesn't have too long to wait xx

Im going to clean out the fridge this morning while its quite empty.

    Have good days all xx

Morning all. It's been a busy old week at work, so very glad it's the weekend now! Last night, we were supposed to be having an M&S meal deal for dinner which I lugged home on my commute in the heat yesterday, and the hubby had assured me he wasn't going out. I tried to ring him a couple of times on the way back- no response. I got home to be greeted by the cat but no husband, so had a wander to his usual haunts and found him with a couple of our friends in Wetherspoons. After a couple of drinks, tea ended up being a frozen pizza. I must try to move away from that being the default option.

Redruby, snap, I too have a towel load on, and am also hoping to line dry it.

I've got to pop into town shortly and pick up my prescription, which I should have done days ago, but I keep forgetting about it, pay my savings into the building society, and get the Saturday paper. (MSE style though, as my parents subscribe, but they are on holiday at the moment, and they tend to give me their paper vouchers when they are away, so I've had a whole week of the Times!)

Afterwards, I'll have to see what hubby wants to do, but we discussed possibly going to the cinema, or maybe the Sealife Centre in Birmingham. It's rare that we both have a Saturday off, so I intend to make the most of it. Then we've got a friend's wedding reception in the evening, so quite a busy day really.

  • Just popping back to wish CAMELOT a Happy Holiday. I hadn't realised it was quite so imminent! Safe journey xx The fog finally lifted here and the sun is now doing its utmost to break through. Washing pegged out and yesterday's washing is upstairs calling out to be ironed - maybe later!
