I only read this the other day on UHM- http://www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk/forum1/toilet-sounds-like-a-fog-horn-when-flushed-t4789.html
Hopefully that will answer your question!0 -
Thanks for this link will get hubby to try it at weekend.0

Definitely sounds like pipe hammer. Change the float valve in the cistern ball !!!! assembly. Its the round rubber washer which stops off the water supply to the toilet when the cisterns full. Only costs a few pence. Don't forget to turn off the supply before dismantling the ball !!!!.0

See my post in this thread,

my advice would equate to the "renew washer in ballcock" advice that appears as one of the replies to the linked to thread in post #2 above. But I found that you don't need to renew it, all you need to do is turn it around.0 -
Hi
I think this is the washer you want...

Most sheds have them, and all plumbers merchants.

That's the washer, I turned inside out and it's still working now a year later.0

If the washer needs changing then this might help-

Hi
Unfortunately that is not the diaphram type valve, which is quite different.
