Where can i buy cheap terracotta pots?

I have some spare time on my hands and am going to have a go at making one or two terracotta pot ponies for my garden.

Can anyone recommend where is a cheap place to buy the plant pots, please? I'm looking for box standard, plain terracotta plant posts - nothing frilly/patterned.

Lidl had some cheapish last year, worth a try.

Check local fb sites, gumtree, car boot sales? Bear in mind some terracotta pots are not frost proof as they are moist so either go for frost resistant ones or store them frost free in the winter

Agree with the above information.
Don't buy cheap terracotta pots !!!


They're not going to be frost proof which means the cold temps in winter erode the terracotta clay and it splits, cracks, and chips away chunks of the pot.


I've known this for years but the stupid in me was sucked in by low prices and …. yup, chipped chunks off pots meaning they look grotty and i'll need to replace them some time soon :mad:


Check out local garden centres, Wyevale, and Blue Diamond have a buy 1 get 1 free on their stock.
Do some searches and check the sizes and prices.

I had no idea the cheap new ones were possibly of a different quality to others.
I think I may look at some 2nd hand ones, as they will either have lasted a few years of frosts or they will already be cracked, etc as mentioned.
