Scottish Power and the ombudsman
I made a complaint about Scottish Power to the Energy Ombudsman. Basically, after years of problems I left.
In 2012 I had a prepayment meter fitted and was paying for the energy I used plus an amount of the debt every week.
I checked their online portal and had a gradually reducing debt.
On the day I left I had a balance of just over £50.00
logged on the next day to pay, only to find that the debt had escalated to over £200.
SP explanation was that they had billed me for a debt dating back to 2012 when I had the pre payment meter fitted- but I was paying this weekly!
I complained to the ombudsman and they have not upheld my decision and I have been offered a discount of £75 as a gesture of goodwill.
Any advise would be welcome, isn't the 'debt' statute barred anyway?
