Pip

Hi, Good morning . I have a question this is for a friend but in a few weeks i would have asked the same question, so hope the answer will help both of us.

When you are awarded PIP, but want to appeal.

First ask for a M.R, then after that you can appeal, but what happens to your award ?

Does it stop when they get your M.R ?

And you dont get any payment til the outcome of the appeal ?

My friend has been awarded STD on both but thinks he should get more.

Which i think was a fair award, but its not up to me.

Many thanks

The award that has been made should continue until it is changed by a decision at the MR stage or at the tribunal.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

He needs to be very careful.
Appealing an award is an opportunity for the DWP to reduce that award - he could end up appealing the MR decision just to get back the award he had.

He needs to be very, very clear on the additional points which will get him an enhanced award. He will need compelling medical and other evidence to back up his challenge.

    Not to be undertaken lightly.

Was this a reassessment and has he gone from enhanced down to standard?
What points did he get against which descriptors?

Thanks for that, he told me he was on DLA mid care and high mobility, been moved from DLA to PIP, IMO he thinks PIP is as easy DLA which its not.

As for mine think i will get PIP std care and no mobility in another 4/5 weeks.

I will pass your info on and see what he thinks, thanks again

The mobility criteria was arbitrarily changed with the introduction of PIP (to make it more difficult to retain an enhanced award).

"One of the main reasons for lower PIP mobility rates is the introduction of the “20 metre rule”, used to assess mobility in PIP assessments.

“Under DLA, someone was awarded the highest mobility rate if they could not walk the measure was 50 metres.

"Now, the PIP benchmark is just over 20 metres (roughly the length of two double-decker buses). "
