Debt management company missed one of my payments and now it's on my credit file as a default

Options
Hi,
I was hoping that someone might be advise with this issue. I started a debt management plan with Debt Legal in 2014. Last year I was told they were closing and Debt Support Service were going to be managing my debt.

Debt Support Service called me and I went through the process of transferring everything across and my payments were to remain the same. A few months later I was informed by one of my creditors that I had missed payments. When I called Debt Support Service they had not been paying the account because they had been informed by Debt Legal that the account was closed.

They got it sorted it out and I started paying the account again and finally finished off my debt management plan in February. However I noticed recently that my credit score had shot down quite significantly and when I looked on my file I saw that it now had the missed payments from last year. I had thought that I was paying this account through the debt management plan but I suppose that technically I did miss the payments.

Is there anything I can do about do about this or do I just have to accept that this is what my credit file says now?

  • Contact Debt Support Service.

Ignore the drop in score as it's not relevant to the lending process in the UK.

The default is not necessarily bad news. It means that the toxic account will be automatically removed sooner from your credit file, than accounts that have been marked as being on a payment arrangement. The account will be removed from your file six years from the date of default. :)

  • Thanks both, it doesn't seem to be anything to worry much about then.

I very appreciated your help-thank you!
