Do I need to cancel soon to expire contents insurance when I move out of rented accommodation?

I am just about to exchange contracts on my first house, so need to arrange home insurance soon. I currently have a contents insurance policy on my rented house, which is due to expire in mid September. I'm looking to take out a combined buildings and contents policy on my new house, which I am moving into towards the end of July.

Instead of cancelling my current contents policy when I move out, which according to my policy documentation will incur a £35 fee, could I just allow it to expire? Would it affect the next person to move into the property in any way, as they will obviously take out their own contents policy, which will slightly overlap mine? I assume it won't be an issue, as the policies are under two different names, but just wanted to check as I haven't found a definitive answer to this anywhere online.

Leaving your contents policy to lapse will be fine.

Bear in mind that you will need a new building insurance in place for your new house from the date of exchange (not completion,), but won't need any contents insurance for the new house till you move in
