Only 24 karat gold is pure gold, and that's deep yellow.

If it's white gold then it will be mixed with something else. And that something else almost certainly includes quite a bit of silver. The two most common metals for alloying with gold are silver and copper. Silver makes it paler, while copper makes it more orange.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

As another user advised, you can simply provide a bank statement to show the transaction. If needed, they can cross-reference the receipts with any luck.

The other element is showing mis-selling.... Whilst you may have been caught up in the moment at the time, the initial question is:

    - Would you reasonably have noticed the error as soon as the ring was presented to you?

    Next:

    - What evidence do you have to argue that he wanted ring X but received ring Y?

White gold contains a variety of metals, one of which can be silver.

Also white gold needs to be re-dipped or the mixed metals start to show through. A friend was advised to get her engagement and wedding rings redipped once a year to keep them looking good. She is sorry she did not just go for yellow gold as her husband did.

I have some 14ct white gold rings which I don't wear all the time but so far been lucky and never need to get them re-dipped.
