Gas up to the house?

Options
Hi all,

Just going through the process of buying a property.

Outside of the property in a brown box is a gas meter control valve. This is all there as and no pipes go into the house.

There has never been any gas supplied to house, and the wells and west company are not sure either until they come out to inspect.

At this point what do we do. Does this mean that a pipe simply needs to be put into the house? Or can this mean they need to run a pipe from the mains to this tap?

Any help appreciated...

Thanks,

Josh

Presumably the valve is on a pipe which enters the box, and it's not just a valve laying about in the box?

Also, just the valve - with the gas feed pipe and no meter?

Have you asked the current owner(s) what they have to say about it?

    By brown box do you mean a small building perhaps 1.5 m high x 2 x 2.

I think these are what are used to keep the pressure up in the mains.

The only way to find out what domestic mains are available is to get Wells and West to come out and that will cost you. Ring them and find out details.

I think before you buy this property you will need to check this issue out.

You say the gas pipe goes to the gas meter box and no pipes enter the property. Does the property have all the gas pipes set up inside?
Is there a gas boiler, gas cooker or gas fire in the property?

If there are no gas services in the property and you want them installed and also gas central heating then this will add a few grand on top of the purchase price and also having these installed will mean lifiting floor boards and making a mess of your new home.
