Current account switching - source account

Is it possible to use a saving account as the source for a switch? I realise it's not called a current account as in the service name, but in practice would it be treated as one?
And is it possible to use the switching service to switch a current account (HSBC) into an already open account (TSB)? I've just tried it and I'm getting an error message but not sure if it's because it's not allowed or some other reason.

How have you tried it, and what is the error message you got?
This opened a new tab where I entered the details of the accounts to switch from and to.
Submitted this and the errror message that popped up said "The channel does not exist for the operation".0 -
Logged on to my TSB account on the website and selected "Switch your account now" from the main screen.

The account opening and account switching processes are two independent things - you can open an account and then switch to/from it at any point after that (either at the time of opening the account or years down the line). Sounds like an (in)famous TSB IT problem there... you might need to initiate a switch manually in branch/over the phone.
And also as above, the clue is in the name. Only current accounts can be switched, and only organisations which are signed up to CASS. A list of participating banks is here: https://www.currentaccountswitch.co.uk/banksandbuildingsocieties/Pages/banks.aspx0 -

Not being familiar with bank account terminology I was wondering whether a savings account could also be a current account despite the name. I thought I'd made that point in the OP.0
