does anyone know how this works? i was admitted in January with a fungal infection in my chest, was in Hospital for nearly 2 months and nearly died from it, and at the same time finding out i had cancer, and have not worked since january and not earned any money since then.
I intend going back to work as soon as i am physically able to which can't come fast enough, was told to put in a joint claim for me and my partner who has just set up in business and not getting much of a salary yet, this was back in April, ever since then i have tried to get some support until i am fit, partner attended an interview with them and informed him he is not entitled to claim, and have now closed the case, because he did not fill out his work commitments, even after them telling him he could not claim, and had no job commitments due to setting up their own business, so now i have to open a new fresh claim for myself, does anyone know if the previous claim date put in will count towards the new claim any advice would be grt, such a stressful process

I order to maintain a UC claim it is a requirement for the claimants to agree a claimant commitment. Failure to do so will automatically end the claim.
If you claim again it will not be backdated but you must both do everything required of you in order to make a successful claim.
Lots of information here https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/universal-credit/
If you have a partner you must both claim UC, you cannot simply claim yourself. The fact your partner is self employed does not exclude them from UC.
Have you looked at whether you can claim new style ESA. You can backdate this for 3 months provided you can get a Fit Note to cover the period. To qualify you need to have paid NI from April 2016 to March 2018 and must not be receiving Statutory Sick Pay. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/new-style-employment-and-support-allowanceInformation I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0 -
Did your partner not attend a Gateway Intervention?
All self-employed people need to attend to verify their self-employment before they can assess you as you will need to be found or not found gainfully self employed.
You both may also have to attend evidence appointments to verify ID and bank details and have a PSN issued and you will both be expected to accept some commitments.0
