O/S Daily Wednesday 26 June 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one, those who are poorly and those looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Cloudy and overcast start to the day, dry underfoot and temperature dropped. I have some washing to peg out, I'll do that shortly.

DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.

Dinner last night was pork loins, mash, veg and gravy, a bit later but not too bad. Tonight we'll be having chicken with a sauce and savoury rice.

Yesterday work wasn't as busy but steady - we'll see what happens today.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

Cloudy and dull again this morning but very warm, I'll have to water the allotment later.

I had a haircut and eyebrow wax yesterday and feel so much better, a lot of rushing about after work, I'm trying to get a prescription for a couple of epipens but have to keep going back to get the prescription changed as they don't do those but another make, changed it once but the dosage was wrong so had to take it back to the surgery again - I'll try again later.

Sorry your DM isn't eating again Gers, I know you'll be doing everything to tempt her.

Well done on the plant shopping TA, I find it very difficult to imagine what a small plant will look like when it's fully grown!

Sounds like you could be moving back to Glasgow Specky, I hope things work out for you.

Work is strangely calm at the moment, I hope it stays that way for the last couple of days of term.

Have a good day, take care. XX
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. A drab start for us too but thankfully no more rain forecast. We had enough yesterday!

I got my new plants potted up and arranged artistically (!) on the pebbled area. Just one I'm not pleased with - a purple leaved Oxalis - from a distance it looks like a dead plant! That may have to be re-homed elsewhere! The new blue pots look lovely against the fence. The birdies don't seem to like the new table! They are landing on the fence and looking at it suspiciously! They'll get used to it. (GINTOT I had no luck finding a suitable big base or lid to use as a bird bath, despite a good old rummage amongst all the rubbish stored in the garage!

It's my postponed Tuesday coffee and lunch date with my friend this morning. That will be enjoyed as usual. Then she is away for 2 weeks in Mexico. Her DGD teaches there and a family group is off over to meet up with her.

I have 2 out of 3 DGDs here for late tea and sleepover after their dancing and drama classes. It will be the usual pizza or toasties with a bowl of soup.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. HOLLY and POPPY if you are reading along thinking of you. Take care all xx

Morning all, very dull here but windy - an odd combination somehow. Not warm.

It poured most of yesterday and the grass and ground are very wet so not sure if I'll get much done outside today. I've always got stuff to do indoors and I think I must have a very high boredom threshold because I'm happy pootling about. I'd quite like to go out and not get soaked though. Forecast is better for tomorrow.

Praise be, OH is now putting boxes for recycling, something I despaired about as he likes to keep boxes "in case". I might add some more boxes in a sneaky fashion.

I have not had much of interest to post recently so I'm really just tending to check in.

Thinking of those who are struggling with their own health or the health of family members.

Hopefully the air will clear a bit today, the last two days have been overcast but really muggy and the sun wasn't even out so hopefully it will make an appearance today!

Off to work for me and Im giving blood after so will need to leave work a bit early.
Ive got some pork chops out of the freezer so we will have them tonight with some new pots and veg, whoever gets in first will start cooking.

Specky no she is not an agency cleaner she was recommended by a friend, she was ok at first but has slacked right off now, we would rather clean the house ourselves we think and put the money up for a holiday.

Need to do a wash tonight and the bins have all gone out this morning.

    Have good days all xx

    Good morning all

Thank you for starting us off nmlc

Looks quite dull out this morning but still very warm.

I'm going to have mother's name added to Dad's headstone, thought it would be straight forward but it seems I have to have the ownership of the stone put into my name, charge for this and will involve a solicitor. Local authority charges to have changes made and that's before I have to pay the stonemason.

    TA your garden sounds lovely

Thoughts are with Holly, Poppy, dp1,Gers and her DM and all those finding life difficult

  • SILVER OLDIE my friend went through similar last year when her dad died. It was ridiculous the length of time it dragged on, as well as the cost. You don't need all that on top of the grief of losing a loved one. Compassion doesn't seem to come into anything these days.xx

Good morning, and it's a dull, damp morning here. Yesterday it started to rain mid morning, and continued most of the day.

We didn't even get out for a walk with Dgs - we were thinking of it when the rain started again with renewed vigour.
I'm visiting a friend today, but in a a way I don't want to go. She has a negative outlook on life and her conversation usually is about the failings of family and friends, they don't do this, they should do that and so on. I usually come home feeling a bit glum. Never mind, a few hours won't kill me, then she will say things about me to someone else probably!!

SO, I didn't realise you had to go through all that to have a name added ::(
Have a good day out TA
Gers, sorry to hear Mum is not eating much - it's a worry for you.
Speky, hope everything goes well for you.

Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.

Overcast here today, plans include dog walking, checking the level in the black water tank and more research into best way forward with Steve's dismissal.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning,
Dull here too.My niece sent a message yesterday asking if I wanted a walk with the baby and coffee- I didnt hear my phone ping & didnt see it until bedtime when it was too late to reply.Sent one back but no reply as yet, she'll be busy with the school run now.
The hummus went down well but the recipe made sooo much :D we'll be eating it for days, I wonder whether you can freeze it,will have to look it up.
I seem to have tons of ironing and washing so I'd better get on with it.
Have a good day all and hugs to all who need one x

Looked it up and you can freeze hummus so that's a bonus and useful to know!

    Morning all.

A bright sunny day here, most odd!

    DM is still asleep.

I've got the groceries delivery this morning so I'm managed to clear some space in a large cupboard to store the loo rolls / kitchen roll / washing powder. I'm struggling for space in the bedroom I'm using as everywhere has 'stuff'. Whatever else happens this has taught me about not keeping things for years and years. Once I get back home I intend to get ruthless.

Elona - DM has Ensure Compact to drink which is calorie dense so there's nutrition there if she wants it. :(

Dumpling - how was your meeting yesterday? You're in my thoughts.

This afternoon I'm going to see an old friend for coffee / chat / gossiping.:rotfl:

Thoughts are with all those struggling - and a happy Wednesday to everyone.
